Note that another extension for AoC A&T RT volunteers will be announced today. Please ignore the typo in the message below. The application deadline will be 7 March (not 7 Feb) and the GNSO endorsement deadline will be 17 March, the Wednesday after the Nairobi meetings. The announcement will only mention the closing date for sending in applications, while there will be no mention to the deadline for SO/ACs to send their endorsement, as to avoid misunderstandings. The date of 7th February was proposed by GNSO so as the Council can consider candidatures while in Nairobi, with the request to not delay it any further, while Chris underlines the value of Nairobi for the identification of candidates. I think that both remarks are fully legitimate, even if your different needs make it difficult to find a compromise. If you'll be able to find a solution which works better for the whole of you along the lines that we discussed, please let me know by tomorrow mid morning CET, otherwise I will proceed with the announcement; the new deadline(s) -subject to final green light from Selectors- will therefore be: * 7 March - deadline for candidatures to be sent to the general email address * 17 March - deadline for the SO/ACs to provide the 'endorsement' of candidatures Obviously, staff will forward you all applications received mentioning your respective SO/ACs as already agreed. For that reason I'd suggest the later deadline. However to allow enough time for nominations to be endorsed straight after the ICANN meeting whilst people are still travelling, I'd recommend that the deadline for candidatures be 11th and for endorsement 17th. Council, Further to my previous email please see the following from the ICANN website (http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-4-15feb10-en.htm) Vertical Integration (aka Registry/Registrar Separation) Based on debates on the subject held at the ICANN meetings in Seoul, discussion during the consultation with certain community representatives held on 7 January 2010 in Washington D.C., and ongoing study, ICANN will propose for community comment a new registry-registrar separation model for inclusion in the next draft of the gTLD agreement. Additionally, the Board and community members will be discussing the issue in Nairobi. ICANN are proposing what? Huh? What about the PDP? I'm still confused! Adrian Kinderis

Hi Everyone, A late update from me regarding the progress at JIG and IDNG: JIG - a kick off discussion between the co-chairs and staff was conducted - a first meeting of the group is planned for Nairobi - 3 items of common interest has been identified, with a 4th being considered and discussed 1. IDN TLD Variants 2. Single Character IDN TLDs 3. IDN TLD Acceptance (universal acceptance of IDN TLDs by Internet applications, databases, filters etc.) 4. IDN TLD information to be included for IANA considerations IDNG Drafting Team - a potential issue regarding "confusingly similar strings" with special consideration for IDN gTLDs that may be considered by the council was identified (in fact in Dec 2009), this may or may not result in a statement from the Drafting Team to the council (a draft has been circulating) Edmon

When you factor in the fact that this issue is complex and contentious, this PDP may take longer than the average, and most likely longer than the 16 weeks referenced in the GNSO resolution. The divergence of opinions experienced to date in developing the charter for this PDP seems to support this conclusion. Please note that although candidates have specified an order of preference for the reviews to be performed, both selected the 'Accountability and Transparency' review which Mr. Gomes stresses in his email. The compressed folders attached to this email contain the applicants' CV and motivation letter. The application deadline for the 'Accountability and Transparency' review will expire on February the 22nd, midnight UTC, but as you know the GNSO Council will have until the 1st March to endorse the candidatures.
