https://www.icann.org/news/announcement-2015-12-10-en Nomination Period Opens For ICANN Multistakeholder Ethos Award | Award Targeted for ICANN 56 | Nominations Close 12 March 2016 ICANN is pleased to announce the opening of the nomination period for ICANN's Multistakeholder Ethos Award. This award program, launched in June 2014 in London, seeks to recognize long-standing community members who have served in leadership roles in multiple ICANN working groups or committees, and demonstrated collaboration with different Supporting Organizationsand/or Advisory Committees. The Multistakeholder Ethos Award will recognize ICANN participants who have deeply invested in consensus-based solutions, acknowledging the importance of ICANN's multistakeholder model of Internet governance, and contributed in a substantive way to the higher interests of ICANN's organization and its community. The nomination period for community nominees opens today, 10 December 2015 and closes on12 March 2016. Community members interested in submitting a nomination are invited to send an email to <mailto:ethosaward2016@icann.org?subject=Multistakeholder%20Ethos%20Award%20 Nomination> ethosaward2016(a)icann.org including: * Name of nominee. * Community of nominee. * Reasons for nomination. Please note that the reasons outlining the candidate's merit for the nomination may be as brief or as long as required. Candidates for the award will demonstrate at least five years of participation in the ICANNCommunity. A panel of community members is being gathered to help review all community nominations and determine the best candidate(s) for the award(s). The decisions of the panel will be made based on the following criteria: 1. Demonstrated multistakeholder volunteer service via working groups or committees. 2. Demonstrated spirit of collaboration through engagement with other community members with the aim of consensus building. 3. Demonstrated facilitator of dialogue and open discussion in a fair, cordial and collegial manner. 4. Demonstrated additional devotional factors exhibited by time spent supporting ICANN's multistakeholder model and its overall effectiveness. A note about signature lines

Hi folks: Most of you probably couldn't care less, but I wanted to put a note on the record regarding my email signature lines. Many of my past messages to the Council list (like this one) will end with "GoDaddy". This should be read as a label/indicator of my email account, rather than a representation of a position from my company & employer. Like many of you, I maintain several email accounts (work, personal, football arguments, etc.), and access all of them via my phone and other mobile devices. In order to ensure that I don't post from the wrong email address, I'm likely to use an inappropriate signature line. Discussions on this topic have been ongoing for some time now, and in 2013, the Strategy Panel on the Public Responsibility Framework<https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/public-responsibility-2013-10-11-en> was tasked with exploring defining this term and the separate but related topic of public responsibility. The Panel, informed by open discussions at ICANN meetings, webinars and through a public comment period, produced a report in May 2014, which proposed the definition of 'public interest' as follows: "Ensuring that the Internet becomes, and continues to be, stable, inclusive, and accessible across the globe so that all may enjoy the benefits of a single and open Internet. In addressing its public responsibility, ICANN must build trust in the Internet and its governance ecosystem." While some welcomed the report and recommendations, it is evident that there is a desire and need to further explore what the term 'public interest' means within ICANN's remit. In response to requests to prepare for such exploration (at a time when all have sufficient bandwidth to do so) staff have been compiling some initial resources and research on this theme. As per recommendations received during conversations on this preparatory work (such as on the GNSO call), these resources have been placed on a community wikispace on Confluence and can be located here<https://community.icann.org/x/epRYAw>. To facilitate discussion on next steps, a mailing list has also been created as a forum for dialogue and coordination, found here<https://mm.icann.org/mailman/listinfo/publicinterest>. Additionally, a request has been submitted to hold a High Interest Session at ICANN55 that will be collaboratively designed, providing an informed and comprehensive base from which to initiate discussions on next steps. This will require global, multistakeholder, bottom-up discussion and ICANN wants to make sure that, when the time is right, there are enough resources and background research available. We all will need to understand the operational, legal, and fiscal parameters and limitations to any potential definition(s). Colleagues - Nominations recently opened for the 2016 Multistakeholder Ethos Award: https://www.icann.org/news/announcement-2015-12-10-en As part of this process, the GNSO Community has been invited to select up to 2 representatives to sit on the Selection Panel, which will evaluate nominations and choose the recipient. In previous years, this role has been filled by the two GNSO Council Vice Chairs (most recently, David & Volker). Our current Vice Chairs (Heather & Donna) have agreed to serve on this panel, and I think the GNSO Community would be well-represented by them. If there are no objections, I think we should proceed accordingly. Please let me know if you have any concerns with this approach. If not, I'll go ahead and communicate this to David Olive & his team. Thanks! J.
