Item 6: COUNCIL DISCUSSION - ICANN Board Response to the GNSO Council Letter Regarding the Consultation on Non-Adopted EPDP Phase 1 Parts of Recommendations (purpose 2 and recommendation #12) Action items: * Council (via its Liaison to the EPDP Team) to draft note in order to consult with the EPDP Team to determine how best to address Board concerns, which the Council has suggested could affirm the recommendation by providing new, or highlighting existing rationale, and providing implementation guidance that may mitigate concerns expressed by the ICANN Board. Understanding ICANN as an organization, the topics discussed within ICANN, and the interaction within other stakeholder groups can be challenging for incoming leaders, but sometimes also for experienced leaders. ICANN org and the community are making considerable efforts to help incoming leaders have a good start to their terms and to provide current leaders the opportunity to strengthen their leadership and facilitation skills. Mentors are expected to devote approximately 24 hours to pre-ICANN Public Meeting preparation with their mentees, to offer advice, networking support, and regular check-ins on-site, and to complete evaluations following the ICANN Public Meeting. Based on previous estimates, mentors spend about two hours per week during the six-week preparation period in advance of the meeting and about two hours per day providing on-site support at the ICANN Public Meeting. While I have previously not put myself forward for consideration as co-chair, mostly because of no prior experience chairing a group in ICANN, I have decided to reconsider my decision, and therefore hereby express my interest. I have been an active member in policy work of the Non-Commercial Stakeholder Group (NCSG) here at ICANN since officially joining a stakeholder group in 2017, so I have a good understanding of the work of the GNSO in ICANN. I am also a steering team member of the Free Software and OpenSource Foundation of Africa (FOSSFA). Other than my of volunteering leadership experience, I am a Technical Lead for NTT Australia. I therefore understand and use leadership, negotiation, influence and diplomacy skills daily. In addition, I spend a fair bit of time researching and studying diplomacy, strategy and national security in cyber space, including Internet Governance in a post graduate degree I am currently pursuing at the Australian Defense Force Academy (ADFA). I understand chairing a team like this will require a fair bit of time, so I am willing to set aside +/- 6 hours a week for this work. It is my hope that my EOI is considered by the council. NextGen Selection Committee members 2. NextGen mentors For the Selection Committee, a time commitment of approximately 20 hours over three weeks is required (for each application round). Mentors are expected to devote approximately 24 hours to pre-ICANN Public Meeting preparation with their mentees, to offer advice, networking support, and regular check-ins on-site, and to complete evaluations following the ICANN Public Meeting. Based on previous estimates, mentors spend about two hours per week during the six-week preparation period in advance of the meeting and about two hours per day providing on-site support at the ICANN Public Meeting.
