Current Status: The Arab Center for Domain Name Dispute Resolution's (ACDR) initial proposal to serve as an approved dispute resolution service provider was posted for public comment in September 2010. The ACDR revised its proposal in light of the comments received, and the revised proposal is now being submitted for public comment. Next Steps: After the close of the public comment forum and summary and analysis of those comments,, staff will evaluate further recommendations to the Board on proceeding with the revised proposal. The proposal was submitted pursuant to the process specified at http://www.icann.org/en/dndr/udrp/provider-approval-process.htm<https://www.icann.org/en/dndr/udrp/provider-approval-process.htm>. The ACDR is jointly established by the Arab Intellectual Property Mediation and Arbitration Society (AIPMAS) and the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP), with headquarters in Amman, Jordan and additional offices in other Arab Countries. Both the AIPMAS (established in 1987) and ASIP promote the activities of the Arab Center of Mediation and Arbitration, established in 2003, active in resolving conflicts related to intellectual property through international arbitrators. If approved, the ACDR would be the first Approved UDRP Dispute Resolution Service Provider headquartered in an Arab state. Section II: Background: The ACDR's proposal was initially posted for public comment in September 2010. The revised proposal under consideration today takes into account many of the comments received. For example, the ACDR's proposal now provides a meaningful limitation of 50 cases per month during the start up process. In ICANN's New gTLD program, string similarity checks on Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) strings go beyond visual resemblance. The string similarity panel has now completed a review of potential IDN variant characters. Based on this review, two (2) contention sets of potential IDN variant strings have been identified. You are invited to a review of the findings of the Registrant ID Study Draft Report, recently published for public comment. The ICANN Policy Staff and the authors of the report, NORC, will provide a briefing on Wednesday 6 March at 12.00 UTC and Wednesday 6 March at 19.00 UTC, summarizing findings from the WHOIS Registrant ID Study. The webinar will cover the methodology used to compile the data, as well as their analysis of their findings. The two sessions are duplicates, scheduled to accommodate different time zones. Each session, scheduled to run for 90 minutes, will be conducted in English only. The meeting will be run in Adobe Connect with a slide presentation along with a dial-in conference bridge for audio. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of each session. During the course of the webinar, questions may be submitted using the chat function of Adobe Connect. If you are not able to participate in either of the live sessions, the recording of the session will be made available shortly after the meeting. http://www.icann.org/en/news/announcements/announcement-2-28feb13-en.htm Objection Period Closing 13 March 2013 28 February 2013 Objections to new gTLD strings must be submitted by 13 March 2013 at 23:59:59 UTC in order to be considered by Dispute Resolution Service Providers (DRSPs). The objection process is intended to afford businesses, individuals, governmental entities and communities an opportunity to formally advance arguments against introducing certain new gTLDs into the domain name system. Parties with standing may file formal objections to applied-for gTLD strings on the grounds of string confusion, legal rights, limited public interest or community opposition. Objections at a Glance * Objections must be: * filed directly with the appropriate DRSP<http://newgtlds.icann.org/en/program-status/odr#file-objection> * written in English * limited to 5000 words or 20 pages, whichever is less * note: administrative portions of objection filing documents will be excluded from the word/page count * addressed to only one application, from only one objector * based upon only one of the grounds for objection listed above * Fees apply: DRSPs determine the amount Objection Funding Opportunities for Governmental Entities and ALAC ICANN will make funding available to eligible governmental entities and the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) to cover DRSP costs.
