Dear all, The ccNSO arranged a telephone conference with ICANN's Chief Financial Officer Kevin Wilson yesterday to discuss ICANN's operating plan 2010/11. Dear all, The monthly update from ICANN's Policy department is now available at http://www.icann.org/en/topics/policy/update-apr09-en.htm ccNSO related issues include topics on IDN Policy development (topic 2), input on geographic names to the new GTLD guidebook (topic 6) and the appointment of a new observer to the GNSO Council (topic 13). Topic 1 also asks the community to provide input on various policy-related issues which are now open for public comments. The five activities are: - IDN Implementation; - IANA and Technology Operations; - Security, Stability and Resiliency (SSR); - Policy Development Support; and - DNS Operations. The SOP WG will set-up a conference call with Kevin Wilson, CFO of ICANN, to provide you a more in depth overview of the framework with a focus on the five activities identified with a Q&A. This call is scheduled for April 29, 2009, noon (12 am) UTC. (Working Group 2 will deal with the changes to Article IX and relevant Annexes in the Bylaws and will not be formed until October 2009). The ccNSO is therefore now seeking membership for Working Group 1. The Working Group is foreseen to have 10 members in total + the ccNSO Chair. Two ccTLD managers - or their nominees - from each of the five ICANN Geographic Regions are needed to form this group. If there are less than two ccTLD nominations from a geographic region, the vacancy can be filled by a nominee from another geographic region (to be selected by the ccNSO Council). In the even that there are three or more ccTLD nominations from the same Geographic Region, the ccNSO Council will decide which nominees shall be appointed to the Working Group. If you are interested in participating in IDN ccPDP Working Group 1, please let me know by email until the 24th April 2009. Your ccTLD does not need to be a ccNSO member in order to participate. As the PDP will be conducted without the use of a task force, clause 8 Annex B of the ICANN bylaws applies (http://www.icann.org/en/general/bylaws.htm#AnnexB) In accordance with sub-clause A thereof, please take this email as a formal request for each of you to arrange for an appointment of a representative to solicit the views from your respective region on the issues. Further, you will note that the Issues Report recommends the formation of 2 Working Groups (see Issues Report section 4 Methodology and Annex B Charter Working Group 1). WG 1 is in the process of being formed and in accordance with its Charter I request that the each of you nominate 1 observer to the WG.
