Input sought on draft WHOIS Technical Requirements Survey

Dear all, The GNSO WHOIS Survey Working Group (WSWG) requests community input on their draft WHOIS Technical Requirements Survey. Especially people with a technical background are requested to deliver input on whether the right questions are asked in the right style: http://www.icann.org/en/news/public-comment/draft-whois-requirements-survey -30may12-en.htm Comments are welcome until 20 June 2012. As mentioned in earlier communication, the WSWG will also conduct a webinar on Friday 1 June at 13.00 UTC and 20.00 UTC where the survey will be presented and feedback sought. Dear all, Please see below information on the upcoming GNSO WHOIS Survey Webinar. Kristina ---------------- WHOIS Technical Requirements Survey Webinar 23 May 2012 In order to participate, please RSVP via email to the GNSO Secretariat gnso.secretariat(a)gnso.icann.org to receive the call details. The Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council's WHOIS Survey Working Group (WSWG) requests community input on a draft WHOIS Technical Requirements Survey, to assess the content of the survey before releasing it for public solicitation. In parallel with the Public Comment period, the Working Group is hosting two webinar sessions to brief the community on the background of this effort and to solicit input from experts on technical requirements for a new WHOIS protocol, in particular people knowledgeable about technical aspects of WHOIS who can help assess if the survey asks the right questions and in the right style to elicit useful and clear technical feedback. The Working Group seeks specific suggestions on changes to language and questions that will make it clearer for experts to complete. While batching is of primary interest to the gNSO, it is of (secondary) interest to the wider ICANN community. ICANN has not been clear enough how this batching process will work, and this appears to me as a recipe for another unwanted controversy that ICANN may stumble into. The TAS fiasco has forced some of us to explain ICANN to different partiesregardless of the fact that we're not in the gNSO. If ICANN opens itself to criticism, the entire ICANN community is affected. Thus, the ccNSO is well within its right to discuss batching with the ICANN Board because if batching proves disastrous (and it has a potential to be so), we all will be affected by the negative publicity, and some of us in the ccTLD community may have to explain many things to our governments.
