ccNSO Travel Funding open for Singapore applications

Dear all, The ccNSO travel funding committee is now accepting applications to the ICANN meeting in Singapore 23 27 March 2014. Funding is made available for those who actively participate in the work of the ccNSO and make a special contribution to its projects and meetings. However, you do not need to be a ccNSO member to receive funding! The funding covers an economy class ticket to the travel destination, the hotel costs for the time of the meeting and a per diem. A document with background information and explanations on how the funding shall be distributed is available at: http://ccnso.icann.org/about/travel-funding-12feb13-en.pdf. If you think you are eligible to receive funding for the Singapore meeting, please fill in and submit the travel funding application form http://www.ccnso.icann.org/about/travel-funding by 12.00 noon UTC on 6 December 2013, at the latest. Please, note the requirement for contributions to the work of the ccNSO. Applications which do not clearly state any active contribution are not eligible. Kind regards, Gabi

Dear fellow councilors, We have received an application for ccNSO membership from .tv, the ccTLD of Tuvalu. The application has been filed by Opetaia Simati, representing the cc's manager The Ministry of Finance and Tourism of Tuvalu. As you can see from IANA's response below, there are no outstanding issues with .tv. Last Thursday 21, it was decided that there was not going to be a press conference but a press release. Four working groups have been established. Brazilian Itamaraty authorities reiterated on Friday 22nd at the eLAC meeting held in Buenos Aires that the Sao Paulo event does not aim to substitute the discussions and processes of the IGF, but will be a forum to discuss pressing issues on privacy, surveillance and Internet governance at a global level. The meeting is scheduled for 23 and 24 April 2014, in São Paulo, and will be organized in a partnership between CGI.br and international entities representing the different sectors involved with Internet governance. The meeting represents an opportunity for government leaders and representatives from different global sectors to discuss proposals about Internet governance and development. The purpose of that meeting is to pursue consensus about universally accepted government principles and to improve their institutional framework. The event shall have the participation of governments, civil society, academy, international organisms and entities, as well as technical and business communities. “We would like to thank the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee for its role organizing that meeting. President Roussef nominated Prof. Virgílio Fernandes Almeida, Coordinator of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee and Secretary for Informatics Policies, to coordinate the organization for that meeting. “The Internet Steering Committee acknowledges the opportunity to discuss new paths for the global Internet governance and appreciates the importance of a multistakeholder meeting for those discussions”, said Professor Virgílio Almeida. Four committees shall be created in order to warrant the event’s success. The committees will have the support of a shared secretary, which shall help them to conduct their work and to coordinate the communications. The four meeting committees are: 1. High-Level Multistakeholder Committee: Responsible for conducting the political articulation and fostering the involvement of the international community. 2. Executive Multistakeholder Committee: Responsible for organizing the event, including the agenda discussion and execution, and for the treatment of the proposals from participants and different stakeholders; 3. Logistics and Organizational Committee: Responsible for overseeing every logistic aspect of the meeting; 4. Governmental Advisory Committee: Will stay open to all governments which want to contribute to the meeting. The meeting will allow face-to-face and remote participation of the global community.
