ICANN Launches Dr. Tarek Kamel Award and Opens Nomination for ICANN Community Excellence Award

Dear All, ICANN announced a new award, the Dr. Tarek Kamel Award for Capacity Building. This award recognizes ICANN community members for significant efforts in developing capacity in areas related to ICANN's mission. Read the announcement here: https://www.icann.org/news/announcement-2-2020-01-27-en Dr. Tarek Kamel Award for Capacity Building The award is established in honor of the late Dr. Tarek Kamel, an Internet pioneer known for his contributions to global Internet governance. At the time of his passing, Kamel was ICANN's Senior Advisor to the President and Senior Vice President for Government and Intergovernmental Organization Engagement. This annual award will be presented to one individual during ICANN's Annual General Meeting, held in the fourth quarter each year. The ideal recipient will have: * Contributed significantly to national, regional, or global capacity-development programs related to ICANN's mission. * Developed capacity-building programs that positively influenced the multistakeholder and diversified participation at ICANN. Details about the award selection process will be available in May 2020. Nomination Opens for ICANN Community Excellence Award The Multistakeholder Ethos Award has been renamed the ICANN Community Excellence Award. ICANN is accepting nominations for this year's award, which will be presented at ICANN68 Kuala Lumpur in June 2020. The ICANN Community Excellence Award recognizes community members who have significantly invested in consensus-based solutions and have contributed substantively to the ICANN multistakeholder model. The ideal recipient(s) will have: * Participated in the ICANN community for a minimum of five years. * Served in multiple ICANN working groups or committees. * Collaborated significantly with more than one Supporting Organization (SO) or Advisory Committee (AC). Candidates will be evaluated by a panel of ICANN community members appointed by the SO/AC chairs using a merit-based point system, using three criteria: * Demonstrates an ability to work across community lines with both familiar and unfamiliar ICANN stakeholders with the aim of building consensus. * Facilitates dialogue and open discussion in a fair and collegial manner through the spirit of collaboration, showing empathy and demonstrating a sincere desire to engage with people from other backgrounds, cultures, and interests. * Demonstrates additional support for the ICANN multistakeholder model and its overall effectiveness through volunteer service via working groups or committees. Dear All, This is to inform you about the results of the Q3 and Q4 survey by the ccNSO Internet Governance Liaison Committee (IGLC). As you may recall, the IGLC aims to create a repository of events, programmes or initiatives in the Internet Governance area, that address ccTLD-relevant topics. About the survey The survey had two main objectives: * share information among ccNSO members, not only on upcoming meetings or events, but also on previous talks, in order to help fostering co-operation between ccTLDs who would like to share their views on one of the 8 relevant topics included in the background section below. * advertise to the broader ICANN community and other key players the important role of ccTLDs in Internet governance talks. Based on the results and the upcoming discussions by the IGLC members and the consultation with the ccTLD community in Cancun, the IGLC will decide on its next steps and work items, including the possibility to re-open the survey. IGF2020 Related to the discussions of the IGLC, the IGLC Chair invited the ccNSO Secretariat to share an announcement with you regarding the IGF2020 Call for Validation of Thematic Tracks<https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/igf-2020-call-for-validati…>. All stakeholders are invited to share feedback and advice on the IGF 2020 thematic approach by Thursday, 6 February 2020, 23:59 UTC. REMINDER Call for volunteers ccPDP3 | Part 2 Review Mechanism

Dear All, This is a reminder that the ccNSO seeks volunteers (members and chair) for the second Working Group of the third ccNSO Policy Development Process (ccPDP3). This group will be tasked to develop the Review Mechanism pertaining to decisions regarding the delegation, transfer, revocation and retirement of ccTLDs. Call for volunteers Opening date for this call for volunteers is Friday, 24 January 2020 (23:59 UTC). The call for volunteers will close Friday 7 February 2020 (23:59 UTC). If you are interested in applying for this position, kindly send an e-mail to joke.braeken(a)icann.org. Further instructions are included under the heading "How to apply?". Who can join? Membership of the Committee is open to all ccTLD managers (whether members of the ccNSO or not) The membership will be listed on the ccNSO website. If you are not directly related to a ccTLD Manager but are interested to become a member, you are kindly requested to demonstrate backing by a ccTLD manager. Members of the WG are expected to have an understanding of the relevant background material (see below). Workload and working method The group meets through telephone conferences (1 hour to 90 minutes - typically bi-weekly), and potentially in face-to-face meetings during the ICANN meetings. However, most work is done online. By applying you commit to participate actively and regularly in the work of the WG and express to have at least a basic understanding of the Reference Material. About ccPDP3 The Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) continues the policy development process (PDP) related to the retirement of country code top-level domains (ccTLDs). This third-ever ccNSO PDP aims to develop policy recommendations for the ICANN Board, which will include a review mechanism pertaining to decision on the delegation, transfer, revocation, and retirement of ccTLDs. In March 2017, the Council decided at the time to split the work in 2 phases: * Phase 1: is about to conclude its work. This group focused on the retirement of the delegated Top Level Domains associated with alpha-2 codes assigned to countries and territories listed in the ISO 3166-1 standard.
