The recent public comment <https://www.icann.org/public-comments/fellowship-proposal-2018-06-11-en> proceeding was the last step in the process of soliciting feedback. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your leadership and support during this process and to inform you of key findings, available resources and next steps. Key Findings There was strong support for action in the following areas: * Increase SO/AC involvement in selecting and mentoring fellows * Develop and gather metrics to understand and measure program impact * Focus on active engagement in policy * Enhance capacity development of fellows In response to this and as a first step, we have issued a call for nominations <https://www.icann.org/news/announcement-2018-08-13-en> for each SO/AC to identify one (1) individual who is to serve a two-year term on the new ICANN Fellowship Program Selection Committee by 10 September 2018. The responsibilities and expectations associated with this role are outlined here <https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/committee-2012-02-25-en> . The same announcement asks for your guidance on outreach & promotion targets, which is to inform our plans for identifying the most appropriate events and fora to reach out to audiences with the desired skills and backgrounds. We are very grateful for your continued support of the program and look forward to receiving your feedback and address any questions you may have. Call for Expression of Interest: IANA Naming Function Review Team (IFRT)

Dear All, The ccNSO Secretariat is launching a new call for Expression of Interest (EoI) for 3 members of the IANA Naming Function Review Team (IFRT). The call for EoI has been restarted as no applications were received during the initial launch. The call for EoI will be open today Monday, 27 August 2018 and will close on Monday, 10 September 2018 (17:00 UTC). If no applications are received, the ccTLD community will not participate in the IANA Function Review. If interested, please send the following documents to: ccnsosecretariat(a)icann.org<mailto:ccnsosecretariat@icann.org> no later than Monday, 10 September 2018 (17:00 UTC). 1. Completed application form (see attachment), both the Word doc and fillable pdf is included for your convenience. 2. Your resume, curriculum vitae, or biography. 3. If applicable, a letter of support from your employer in respect to the required time commitment to participate actively in the IFRT. Composition of the review team The three ccNSO appointed members to the IFRT are to be appointed in accordance with the rules and procedures of the ccNSO and must be from different ICANN regions. The composition of the review team, which is specified by the Bylaws, includes, among others: (a) Two representatives appointed by the ccNSO from its ccTLD registry operator representatives; (b) One non-ccNSO ccTLD representative who is associated with a ccTLD registry operator that is not a representative of the ccNSO, appointed by the ccNSO; it is strongly recommended that the ccNSO consult with the regional ccTLD organizations (i.e., AfTLD, APTLD, LACTLD, and CENTR) in making its appointment; Further details on the candidate qualification requirements are included at the bottom of this email. Next Steps Once we have received your intent to volunteers as IFRT member, the ccNSO Secretariat will send you a link to an online Acknowledgement of Terms Form. Via this form, you consent to ICANN processing data in order to add you as a member of the IFRT and its mailing list(s). The form explains the information ICANN will process to administer your participation in the IFRT and how the information will be used this purpose. It also describes the rights you have regarding your information. IFRT: call for Expression of Interest

Dear Colleagues, Nothing has changed since our call on Thursday: we have not received any application from volunteers willing to serve on the IFRT. I understand Peter's guess that the main reason could be the good performance of IANA (and the CSC, in fact). However, if that is the case, it is in our interests to ensure that it remains so in the future. It was also suggested that another reason might be the holiday season in the Northern hemisphere (actually, this raises another question - why every year we are expected to perform heroic and urgent deeds during this period?) As we discussed during our call, today we should issue a new call for another 2 weeks. I did not sense any objection to this during our call, so I hope we all agree. In addition to the new call, I have some questions we all could think about: - Should we change the message that we send to the ccNSO members and the wider ccTLD community wrt IFRT? - How can we identify and target particular individuals from the ccTLD community and convince them to apply for the IFR? - Should we consider changing the approach we currently use when we look for volunteers? The ALAC noted At-Large is unique within the ICANN community in that most volunteers in At-Large activities do so as true volunteers. None travel in support of their employers, few are employed by what could be considered the domain name industry or in activities supporting it, and many are not even employed in jobs supporting the Internet. Release for Registration one .COM Domain Name with a Single-Character Label: O.COM During ICANN62, the ALAC revised, ratified and resubmitted their Statement. The ALAC supported the proposition, provided it offers the proceeds to nonprofit organizations that serve the public interest. The ALAC offered three suggestions to that end: (1) ICANN should permit the release of O.com [o.com] and allow Verisign to conduct a third-party auction, (2) Third-party auction service providers should screen candidates for auction, and (3) Verisign should forfeit the auction’s proceeds and renewals to non-profit entity. Draft Final Report of the RSSAC2 Review The ALAC is responsible for representing the interests of Internet end users within ICANN, and there are few parts of the Internet as critical as the Root Server System. The ALAC commented specifically on recommendations 1, 2 and 5 of the RSSAC2 Review, related to 1) RSSAC membership criteria, the 2) RSSAC charter and 3) engaging more effectively with ICANN The ALAC has also appointed 4 members to the EPDP: The ALAC EPDP team will consist of: Hadia Elminiawi (Member); Alan Greenburg (Member); Seun Ojedeji (Alternate)' and Holly Raiche (Alternate) Best Wafa
