Dear all, Below is the mission statement of Hiro Hotta. Hiro is one of the candidates to the ccNSO Council for the Asia-Pacific region. Elections will start on the 12th October 2010. Kind regards, Gabi === October 2010 MISSION STATEMENT (Candidate of ccNSO Councilor) Hirofumi Hotta My involvement in ICANN started in the year of 1999 when I was elected as DNSO (Domain Name Supporting Organization) Councilor in the second ICANN meeting. At that time, I was Service Creation Manager of a telecom company launching an ISP service as well as Chairman of APIA (Asia and Pacific Internet Association). Applying the extensive experience in the field of Internet service development, I contributed to the discussion in ISP Constituency and DNSO. Since I joined .JP ccTLD registry (JPRS) in 2001, I have been responsible for corporate and service planning. Especially I have been active in the fields related to IDN and ENUM, and participated in numerous community initiatives in the international fora including ICANN. Some of the teams I have contributed to are : - President's Advisory Committee for IDNs (ICANN), - Accountability Framework Working Group (ccNSO), and - Joint Engineering Team for CJK IDNs (several ccTLDs). Roles of ccTLDs are rapidly spreading and deepening in our lives. In this environment, ccTLDs need to be more visible in - satisfying various stakeholder' needs (e.g., IDN TLDs), - connecting various stakeholders to the Internet in a secure and stable manner, and - giving unique values to ccTLDs in the era of emerging gTLDs by appropriately serving the community. As seen in the personal background, I have wide and deep knowledge and experiences both in technical and business field in running a ccTLD. And I also have personal history in international contribution. In the coming years of dynamic environment, I'll try to use my experience and enthusiasm to raise the value of ccTLDs in the aspect of governance, business, and technology. ===

Call for Nominations to ICANN Board

Dear ccNSO members, The ccNSO is now opening for nominations to fill ICANN Board seat number 11, which expires in June 2011. Nominations can be made from 15th September 00.00 UTC to 6th October 00.00 UTC. The nomination process is outlined below and is also available at http://ccnso.icann.org/announcements/announcement-15sep10-en.htm The election procedure, including a time table, will be sent to you shortly in a separate email and can also be found at http://ccnso.icann.org/about/elections/election-procedure-to-elect-icann-di… Please, note that this differs from the currently ongoing Call for Nominations to the ccNSO Council, which is a separate process! Kind regards, Gabi ---- The term of the ICANN Board seat number 11 expires in June 2011 and a nomination process therefore needs to be launched. Should there be more than one candidate nominated for seat number 11, an election will be held. Bylaw Article IX - section 3.9 states: "The ccNSO Council shall make selections to fill Seats 11 and 12 on the Board by written ballot or by action at a meeting; any such selection must have affirmative votes of a majority of all the members of the ccNSO Council then in office. Notification of the ccNSO Council's selections shall be given by the ccNSO Council Chair in writing to the ICANN Secretary, consistent with Article VI, Sections 8(4) and 12(1)." The ccNSO Council and the ccNSO members have decided that before making the nomination of Directors the ccNSO members shall be entitled to nominate and vote for candidates they wish the Council to nominate to the ICANN Board. Section 2(3) of Article VI of the Bylaws states "In carrying out their responsibilities to fill Seats 9 through 14, the Supporting Organizations shall seek to ensure that the ICANN Board is composed of members that in the aggregate display diversity in geography, culture, skills, experience, and perspective, by applying the criteria set forth in Section 3 of this Article. At any given time, no two Directors selected by a Supporting Organization shall be citizens of the same country or of countries located in the same Geographic Region."\ Pursuant to this Bylaw, the candidate that receives the highest number of votes from ccNSO members will be nominated by the Council to the ICANN Board. Each member can nominate one candidate for seat 11 on the ICANN Board and each member can second one candidate. In order to nominate or second a candidate, a member must be a member of the ccNSO by 15 September 2010.
