New gTLD Protections for Intergovernmental and Non-governmental Organisations

Dear all, The ICANN Board’s New gTLD Programme Committee has approved two resolutions with the goal of providing interim Domain Name protections to certain non-governmental organisations and Intergovernmental Organisations. One resolution would specifically afford temporary protection at the second level for certain names associated with the Red Cross, Red Crescent and the International Olympic Committee. The second resolution lays out a course for placing the names and acronyms of IGOs into a Reserved Names List, which will afford second level protection for those names and acronyms. http://www.icann.org/en/news/press/releases/release-28nov12-en.pdf Kind regards, Gabi

Call for Approval to review Process of election and voting guidelines

Dear Councillors, The latest elections to the ccNSO Council demonstrated that there are a number of problems and issues that need to be addressed in order to be able to conduct future elections smoothly. The issues that were identified are noted in following reports: Nomination and Election Report for ccNSO Council 2013: http://www.ccnso.icann.org/node/35701 Extraordinary Nomination and Elections European Region: http://www.ccnso.icann.org/node/35699 The Council is therefore asked to approve and open a review on the current process of election and voting guidelines. Unless any objection is received by 28 November 2012, this call will be considered approved.
