Dear all, The call for Nominations for a Director to the ICANN Board seat nr 11 started today at 00.00 UTC. It ends on 4 November at 00.00 UTC. You can read more about Chris at http://www.icann.org/en/groups/board/disspain.htm Kind regards, Gabi == Call for Nominations for a Director to the Board of ICANN Date: 14 October 2013 The term of the ICANN Board seat number 11 expires at the ICANN AGM 2014 and a nomination process therefore needs to be launched. Should there be more than one candidate nominated for seat number 11, an election will be held. Bylaw Article IX section 3.9 <http://www.icann.org/general/bylaws.htm#IX> states: "The ccNSO Council shall make selections to fill Seats 11 and 12 on the Board by written ballot or by action at a meeting; any such selection must have affirmative votes of a majority of all the members of the ccNSO Council then in office. Notification of the ccNSO Council's selections shall be given by the ccNSO Council Chair in writing to the ICANN Secretary, consistent with Article VI, Sections 8(4) <http://www.icann.org/general/bylaws.htm#VI-8.4> and 12(1) <http://www.icann.org/general/bylaws.htm#VI-12.1> ." The ccNSO Council and the ccNSO members have decided that before making the nomination of Directors, the ccNSO members shall be entitled to nominate and vote for candidates they wish the Council to nominate to the ICANN Board. Section 2(3) of Article VI of the Bylaws states "In carrying out their responsibilities to fill Seats 9 through 14, the Supporting Organizations shall seek to ensure that the ICANN Board is composed of members that in the aggregate display diversity in geography, culture, skills, experience, and perspective, by applying the criteria set forth in Section 3 <http://www.icann.org/general/bylaws.htm#VI-3> of this Article. At any given time, no two Directors selected by a Supporting Organization shall be citizens of the same country or of countries located in the same Geographic Region." Pursuant to this Bylaw, the candidate that receives the highest number of votes from ccNSO members will be nominated by the Council to the ICANN Board. Each member can nominate one candidate for seat 11 on the ICANN Board and each member can second one candidate. In order to nominate or second a candidate, a member must be a member of the ccNSO by 14 October 2013. Nominations should be sent by e-mail to the Election Manager at the following e-mail address: ccnso-boardnominations(a)icann.org PLEASE NOTE: If you send a Nomination or Second you will receive an email from ICANN asking you to confirm that you have sent an email to ccnso-boardnominations(a)icann.org. ICANN Fellowship Programme

Dear all, For those of you who are interested in ICANN's Fellowship Programme the application period for the ICANN meeting in Singapore 23-27 March 2014 is closing on 1 November 2013. Read more at: http://www.icann.org/en/news/announcements/announcement20sep13en.htm Please, note that ICANN's Fellowship Programme is different from the ccNSO Travel Funding Programme. Whilst the ccNSO Travel Funding Scheme is mainly for ccTLD operators, the Fellowship Programme is aiming to increase attendance at ICANN meetings by all stakeholders, not just ccTLD operators. The main restriction for the Fellowship Programme is that applicants must be citizens of eligible countries, determined by economic ranking. Fellowships are awarded by an independent selection committee based on a mix of criteria including applicant experience and references, geographic proximity to meeting, receipt of past fellowships, etc. The ccNSO Travel Funding application period for the Singapore meeting will open for applications later this year. ccNSO Application for Membership .bj (Benin)

Dear fellow councilors, With member #141 just approved, we have yet received another application, this time from .bj, the ccTLD for Benin. The application has been filed by Abdoul-Akim ADJIBOLA, representing the cc's manager Benin Telecoms S.A. As you can see from IANA's response below, there are no outstanding issues with .bj.
