Second and Final ccNSO members vote IDN ccTLD policy development process

Dear all, The ccNSO members have the opportunity to vote on the ccNSO Council Recommendation as part of the ccNSO policy development process. As the first round of voting did not meet the required quorum for the first round ( at least 50 % of the membership needed to cast a vote), a second and final round of voting starts on Wednesday, 24 July 2013 00:00 UTC and ends on Tuesday, 13 August 2013 23:59 UTC. The vote will be carried out electronically. Only the ccNSO primary contact of each member ccTLD will receive an electronic ballot at the email address listed with the ccNSO secretariat. Please note this ballot is send by tally(a)tally.icann.org and will be send out shortly. If the primary contact for your ccTLD has not received the ballot by tomorrow this time, one of the following issues may be at hand: * The primary contact as listed with the ccNSO secretariat is no longer the primary contact with your ccTLD. * The email address as listed with the secretariat is no longer valid as the email address of the ccNSO representative for your ccTLD. Please, check with the ccNSO Secretariat who your primary contact is, and this persons contact details! Please, do so as soon as possible! A second issue, which has arisen in the past, is that the ballot email from tally(a)tally.icann.org is caught as "spam" by some spam filters. If you are sure the contact details etc. are correct, please check your spam filter. In any case, if you or any other person in your registry has not received the ballot email by tomorrow, please do not hesitate to contact the ccNSO secretariat. Background/ What is the ccNSO Council Recommendation? At its meeting in Beijing, the ccNSO Council adopted all the proposals of the working groups relating to the selection of an IDN ccTLD string and inclusion of IDN ccTLDs in the ccNSO under the Internationalised Domain Names country code Policy Development Process (IDN ccPDP). As a result, they are now a ccNSO Council Recommendation and this is presented as such to the ccNSO Membership in the Members Report of the IDN ccPDP. The report has been published at http://ccnso.icann.org/node/38473. For those of you who feel that you know too little about the issues and full set of proposals and would like to learn more before voting, the IDN ccPDP Webinar of 15 May at 08.00 and 19.00 UTC has been posted on the ccNSO website. You may be aware that voting in a Policy Development Process rarely happens within the ccNSO. In fact, this has only happened once before (on the ccNSO Bylaws changes in 2005). We would therefore be really grateful if as many members as possible would use the opportunity to vote on this very important topic. Over the next weeks, leading up to 13 August, we will keep you abreast of the progress on the voting. As only two persons currently are serving on that group and one of them was on holiday, only one has agreed to the recommendation. Unless anyone objects by Thursday, 18 July, we will move forward with the recommendation (Re-establish Drafting Team that commented on previous Geographic Regions Report, let the team draft input on ICANN Geographic Regions Working Group Report). Gabi == Topic: Request for Input to ICANN Geographic Regions Working Group Report Originator: ICANN Geographic Regions Working Group Summary of request: The Report contains recommendations to the ICANN Board about the application and future use of the ICANN Geographic Regions framework. The Working Group was formed by the Board to (1) identify the different purposes for which ICANN¹s Geographic Regions are used; (2) determine whether the uses of ICANN¹s Geographic Regions (as currently defined, or at all) continue to meet the requirements of the relevant stakeholders; and (3) submit proposals for community and Board consideration relating to the current and future uses and definition of the ICANN Geographic Regions. Dear all, The ccNSO travel funding committee is now accepting applications to the ICANN meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina 17 21 November 2013. Funding is made available for those who actively participate in the work of the ccNSO and make a special contribution to its projects and meetings. However, you do not need to be a ccNSO member to receive funding! The funding covers an economy class ticket to the travel destination, the hotel costs for the time of the meeting and a per diem. GNSO Liaison Volunteer Sought

Dear all, Han Chuan Lee, who has served as our liaison with the GNSO, has decided to leave this position. We are therefore looking for another volunteer to serve as the ccNSO liaison to the GNSO. The liaison should keep an eye on GNSO developments and be prepared to attend all GNSO Council telephone conferences and meetings and to report back to the ccNSO Council through a short written report. The liaison should also attend the ccNSO Council meetings and telephone conferences. Both Councils meet 1x/month. Dear fellow councilors, We have received an application for ccNSO membership from .rw, the ccTLD of Rwanda. The application has been filed by Mrs. CLAUDINE SUGIRA, representing the cc's manager RWANDA INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATION (RICTA). As you can see from IANA's response below, there are no outstanding issues with .rw. Having our meeting on the African continent and celebrating the ccNSO's 10th anniversary, wouldn't it be nice to approve this application coming Wednesday and have our esteemed and beloved departing chair, as one of her final acts in that role, welcome .rw as member #137? Some information for tonight's transportation

Dear all, For those of you who will join tonight's cocktail reception here is some information regarding the transportation: Guests will be collected, starting at 18.30 - 19.15, from the front entrance of the ICC and dropped off at the function venue. The distance from the ICC to the drop off point is about 25km and estimated travel time is 15 to 20 minutes. At the end of the event guests will be dropped off along ICANN designated hotels (Hilton Durban, Southern Sun Elangeni, Garden Court Marine Parade and Suncoast Square). The final point of exit will be the ICC. Beyond these times guests will need to use the taxi services that will be available. Departures start at 21.30. Ushers will be placed just outside of the entrance to the ICC with signage for the event and will escort guests to the designated buses until the function venue. Gabi
