Call for Volunteers to Cross Community WG on Internet Governance

Dear all, The Cross Community Working Group on Internet Governance is now looking for volunteers to join the Working Group.* The WG has been established to coordinate, facilitate, and increase the participation of the ICANN community in discussions and processes related to Internet Governance. It is NOT dealing with the Transition of NTIA¹s Stewardship of the IANA Functions, and ICANN accountability. The ccNSO Council adopted the charter at is meeting on 25 September 2014. The Working Group is meant to facilitate and ensure engagement and participation of the ICANN community in the global Internet governance scene and multi-stakeholder decision-making processes and will take a proactive role in seeking and fostering participation and input into the processes and provide regular feedback to the SO's and AC's. Kind regards, Gabi * According to ccNSO Council Resolution 98-03: THE COUNCIL RESOLVED to request its Secretariat to seek confirmation of the current members whether or not they want to remain members of the Cross-Community Working Group on Internet Governance. Once confirmed, the secretariat is requested to send a call for volunteers for the remainder of the slots. The volunteers will be appointed / reconfirmed by the Council. The chair and vice-chairs of the Council are requested to propose a candidate for co-chair of the Working Group, to be confirmed by the Council. The resolution was approved unanimously.

Results of ICANN Board Nomination

Dear ccNSO members, The nomination period to the ICANN board, seat 12, ended last Friday, 3 October. The only person that was nominated and seconded for this position was Mike Silber, .za (see http://forum.icann.org/lists/ccnso-boardnominations) Mike has also accepted his nomination. This means that no elections are needed to the ICANN Board, seat 12. Still Mike will be available to reply to your questions during the Q&A session in Los Angeles (Tuesday, 14 October 12.30 13.00 see http://ccnso.icann.org/meetings/los-angeles51/agenda.htm) If you have any questions which you wish to be asked on your behalf please, let us have them by Friday, 10 October (you can also ask them directly yourself, of course). Dear ccNSO members, The nomination period to the ccNSO Council ended last Friday, 3 October. Following people were nominated + seconded: African Region: Vika Mpisane, .za Asia-Pacific Region: Young-Eum Lee, .kr European Region: Katrina Sataki, .lv Latin American & Caribbean Region: Margarita Valdes, .cl North American Region: Byron Holland, .ca All nominees have accepted their nomination. This result also means that no elections will be needed in any of the regions. Still a Q&A session with all nominees will be held at the ccNSO meeting in Los Angeles next week (Tuesday, 14 October 12.30 13.00 see http://ccnso.icann.org/meetings/los-angeles51/agenda.htm) If you have any questions which you wish to be asked on your behalf please, let us have them by Friday, 10 October. CWG Member selection

Dear Colleagues, I think we have to quickly hit 'reset' on the selection process for the CWG. Time constraints and a lack of a clearly defined process upfront have led to the considerable confusion surrounding the selection criteria for the five CWG members. Having recently just selected our members for the ICG - a process in which we announced before things got going that the choice would be largely made by a small special committee of Council, thus allowing the nuanced discussion of who could best represent the ccTLD community to be weighed against the many 'diversity' related factors e.g. geographic region, size of registry, etc. we also wish to achieve. In the current CWG selection process we never defined beforehand what the selection process would be and what criteria would be applied. Many of us have brought different filters to making the decision, none of which are incorrect, but they have not to my mind resulted in a clean, transparent, objective outcome. So, the best path forward would be to hit 're-set' and call for another poll from Council, but with the 'criteria' clear at the outset: the top five candidates will form the ccNSO choice for CWG membership. Please send your selections directly to Bart, cc'ing the Council, by no later than Monday. Thank you and best regards, Byron
