Dear all, On 25 April, the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures Policy Development Process Working Group held webinars on geographic names at the top level. With ICANN59 fast approaching, this email provides information about activities in Johannesburg that will build on the webinars. There will be two extended cross-community sessions at ICANN59 to clarify key policy issues, build a shared understanding of community interests and concerns, develop options that could gain broad community support, and start down a path to consensus on a comprehensive proposal that can be accepted by the ICANN community. Sessions will be open to the entire community, including remote participants. ICANN Board to Hold Public Session During Johannesburg Workshop

Dear all, The ICANN Board will be holding a public session during its upcoming workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa, which will be taking place from 23-25 June, 2017, ahead of ICANN59. This session will be similar to previously held public sessions in Geneva, Switzerland and Copenhagen, Denmark, among others. The session, Board Review of the FY18 Final Budget, will be held on Friday, 23 June, from 15:15 – 16:45 (13:15 – 14:45 UTC). The session will be in English only. DENIC eG Approved as New gTLD Data Escrow Agent

Dear all, ICANN announced on 13 June that DENIC (https://www.denic.de/en/ ) has been approved to provide data escrow services to new generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) registry operators. All new gTLD registry operators are required to regularly deposit a backup copy of their Top-Level Domain (TLD) registration data through one of the approved data escrow service providers. The data held in escrow may be released to ICANN under certain circumstances in order to preserve the stability of the TLD in case of an emergency. The ICANN organization encourages applicants to engage with one of the approved data escrow providers in preparation for Specification 2, Part B.1, of the Registry Agreement.
