Topic: 30-2017: Label Generation Rules for the Root Zone Version 2 (RZ-LGR-2) released for public comments Originator: ICANN, GDD Summary of request: Purpose: To determine valid top-level Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) labels and their variant labels, the community had finalized the Procedure to Develop and Maintain the Label Generation Rules for the Root Zone in Respect of IDNA Labels[icann.org]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.icann.org_en_syste…> [PDF, 1.39 MB]. The Procedure requires community-based Generation Panels (GPs), organized for relevant scripts, to convene and propose specific rules. These rules are evaluated and then integrated into the Root Zone Label Generation Rules (RZ-LGR) by the Integration Panel (IP). Current status: The Integration Panel (IP) has successfully evaluated the Root Zone Label Generation Rules (LGR) Proposals[icann.org]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.icann.org_resource…> for five additional scripts, Ethiopic, Georgian, Lao, Khmer and Thai, submitted by the respective GPs, following the release of these individual proposals for public comments. The purpose of the webinar is to summarize policy activities across the ICANN policy development community and to brief the community on the Empowered Community consultation and cross-community sessions taking place in Johannesburg. Briefings on the Empowered Community Consultation and Cross-Community Sessions: · Special session on the Proposed Fundamental Bylaws Amendments · Next-Generation Generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) Registration Directory Services (RDS) policy requirements · General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) · Geographic names · Operational side of ICANN's Operating Plan and Budget · Who sets ICANN's priorities? ccNSO PDP Retirement and Review Mechanism, issue report out for public comment

Dear all, The ccNSO Council initiated the third ccNSO Policy Development Process (PDP) at its meeting in Copenhagen during ICANN58. As part of the launching process feed-back, comment and input is sought on the issues as defined in the Issue Report. Purpose: In accordance with section 3 Annex B of the ICANN Bylaws the ccNSO Council has initiated the third ccNSO Policy Development Process (ccPDP). The goal of this ccPDP is to develop and recommend policies to the ICANN Board of Directors pertaining to: • The retirement of country code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs) • Review Mechanisms for decisions relating to the delegation, transfer, revocation and retirement of ccTLDs Status: As required under Annex B of the Bylaws and after initiation of the ccPDP, the Issue Report is posted for public comment on behalf of the ccNSO PDP Issue manager. Public comments, in particular on and related to the scope of the ccPDP are welcomed. Next Steps: After the closure of the public comment forum, the Issue Manager will include the comments received in the Comments Report, which then be made available and used to inform the discussions by the ccPDP Working Group (WG) on retirement on of ccTLDs and – later – by the WG working on the development of a recommended policy pertaining to a review mechanism. Dear all, ICANN is seeking expressions of interest for leadership roles in the 2018 Nominating Committee (NomCom) - that of the 2018 NomCom Chair and Chair-Elect. In September 2017, the ICANN Board appointed Hans Petter Holen as the 2017 Nominating Committee Chair and Zahid Jamil as the 2017 Nominating Committee Chair-Elect (https://www.icann.org/resources/board-material/resolutions-2016-09-15-en#1.….) Article 8, section 8.3(d) of the Bylaws states, "[i]t is anticipated that upon the conclusion of the term of the Chair-Elect, the Chair-Elect will be appointed by the Board to the position of Chair." While it is anticipated that the 2017 NomCom Chair-Elect will become the 2018 NomCom Chair, in support of continuous improvement in its accountability and transparency, the NomCom will evaluate the performance of the current NomCom leadership, and the results of that evaluation will be available to the Board Governance Committee before it makes a recommendation to the full Board on 2018 NomCom leadership. These reviews will be conducted by an independent third party provider and will consist of interviewing other NomCom leadership, NomCom members, and designated NomCom staff. The Board Governance Committee (BGC) will utilize the outcomes of these reviews in their processes leading up to the Board's formal appointment of the 2018 NomCom Chair and Chair-Elect. The NomCom Chair is responsible for organizing the NomCom in its activities to select certain ICANN Board members and individuals who will serve in key leadership positions within ICANN's supporting organizations (SOs) and advisory committees (ACs) in accordance with ICANN's Bylaws. The Chair is a non-voting member of the NomCom selected by ICANN's Board to serve until the conclusion of the next ICANN Annual Meeting. The Chair-Elect, a position created as a result of an independent review of the NomCom, is not intended to fill an advisory role. Rather, the Chair-Elect will receive the benefit of training while serving alongside the Chair, gaining skills and knowledge to be applied for the Chair-Elect's anticipated succession into the role of the Chair. Candidates for Chair-Elect should possess the same skills as candidates for the Chair. Staff Report of Public Comments on ICANN's Draft FY18 Operating Plan and Budget published

Dear all, On 2 June 2017, ICANN published the Staff Report of Public Comments on ICANN's Draft FY18 Operating Plan and Budget, and an associated update to the Five-Year Operating Plan. These documents were available for community feedback during a public comment period from 8 March 2017 to 28 April 2017. The documents will be revised to incorporate necessary changes as indicated in the staff report, and will be posted to the public comment page within the next couple weeks. ICANN recognizes and thanks all stakeholders who contributed to the submission of comments during this public comment period. Community and public participation in the planning and budget process of ICANN is a keystone of ICANN's multistakeholder model. ICANN will seek adoption of the proposed FY18 Operating Plan and Budget and updated Five-Year Operating Plan at a board meeting during ICANN 59 in Johannesburg.
