Dear Katrina, dear Council Following the completion of the Board Member Election, and noting the content of the discussions held by other members of Council in the two "Special Council Meetings" regarding the matter of disqualifications to serve for ccNSO-elected Board members (a.k.a "due diligence") . . . In order to reassure all concerned (including the Members, the Council and ICANN Board/Legal/HR), after the election result was public, I have taken the following actions to provide a measure of individual reassurance in respect to various theoretical concerns that arose after the election was called, principally as a result of the public commentary of Mr Andruff in Abu Dhabi. 1. I have requested an official extract of UK and Guernsey records from the Guernsey Police Disclosure and Vetting Unit which I will, upon receipt, immediately forward to the ICANN Company Secretary and/or ICANN Human Resources, as appropriate. See http://www.guernsey.police.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=102646&p=0 for information about DBS checks. 2. Alongside with this, I will provide consent that the ICANN Organization may undertake whatever lawful inquiries it considers appropriate in order to satisfy itself that I am a fit and proper person (under applicable law in UK/Guernsey as well as in California) to serve as a Director of a California corporation. I trust the above will provide those Council Members requiring it, the necessary reassurances as to my bona fides. Kind regards

Timing of retirement from Council - election of replacement

Dear Katrina, dear Council I am honoured to have now been formally confirmed by the ECA as the Members' selection from the ccNSO to the ICANN Board, starting in October 2018. As you know, according to the By-Laws, a Board Member may not simultaneously serve on the Council, so, in accordance with the assurance I gave as part of the election process, I wish formally to inform you that I will, of course, be standing down from Council at the appropriate time. However, in addition . . . I am of the view that I do not think appropriate to stay on as a Council member until the very end of the Barcelona meeting (the latest time when I am required by the By-Laws to depart). There are several reasons for this view, including wanting to give Council the time needed for the process for electing a replacement, as well as the expected increased involvement in Board-related activities before formally taking up the role at the end of the Barcelona meeting. I would therefore like to inform Council that, so as to ensure a trouble free transition, I should wish to be relieved of my position as one of the three Council Members representing Europe (a) as soon as it is convenient after we have held the necessary Special Election to find a replacement (b) in any event, no later than the end of the F2F Council Meeting that is scheduled for ICANN 62 in Panama). It's for the Council as a whole, working with the Elections Manager, to decide on the timing of elections etc., of course, but I decided to write to let you know today of my plans, since it appears to me that it might be useful for the Council to appoint the election manager and begin the process of seeking my replacement sooner rather than later. The Sinhala Script Community Forms the Generation Panel for Developing the Root Zone Label Generation Rules (LGR)

Dear all, ICANN announced the formation of the Generation Panel to develop root zone Label Generation Rules (LGR) for the Sinhala script. The ICANN org reviewed the proposal including panel composition and scope, to ensure that requirements set forth in the LGR Procedure[icann.org]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__icann.org_en_system_fi…> [PDF, 772 KB], and in particular the criteria set forth in the Call for Generation Panels to Develop Root Zone Label Generation Rules[icann.org]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__icann.org_news_announc…>, are fulfilled. "On behalf of ICANN we are grateful to the Sinhala script community for volunteering to develop the Sinhala script LGR proposal for the root zone," said Sarmad Hussain, the Director of IDN Programs at ICANN. "We would also like to thank Theekshana Company and the University of Colombo School of Computing in Sri Lanka for providing the institutional support to the panel." Proposed Incremental Changes to the ICANN Meetings Strategy

Dear All, A Public Comment seeks community input on proposed incremental changes to the current strategy for ICANN Public Meetings. The proposed changes were developed by community leaders during a call on 17 August 2017 and subsequently detailed in a report for the purposes of this consultation. Current Status: Community Leaders reviewed the report on proposed incremental changes at a meeting held 2 November 2017 during ICANN61 in Abu Dhabi and approved the publication to gather public comments. Nomination Period Opens For ICANN Multistakeholder Ethos Award | Award Targeted for ICANN62 | Nominations Close 19 March 2018

Dear All, ICANN announced the opening of the nomination period for ICANN's Multistakeholder Ethos Award. Launched in 2014 at ICANN50 in London, the Multistakeholder Ethos Award recognizes ICANN participants who have deeply invested in consensus-based solutions, acknowledging the importance of ICANN's multistakeholder model of Internet governance, and contributed in a substantive way to the higher interests of ICANN's organization and its community. Candidates for the award will demonstrate at least five years of participation in the ICANN Community. Candidates will be evaluated by a panel of community members appointed by the Chairs of each Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees using a merit-based point system evaluated against three criteria: 1. Demonstrated ability to work across community lines with both familiar and unfamiliar ICANN Stakeholders with the aim of consensus building and collaboration that substantiate ICANN's multistakeholder model; 2. Facilitator of dialogue and open discussion in a fair and collegial manner, through the spirit of collaboration as shown through empathy and demonstrating a sincere desire to engage with people from other backgrounds, cultures, and interests; and 3. Demonstrated additional devotional factors exhibited by time spent supporting ICANN's multistakeholder model and its overall effectiveness through volunteer service via working groups or committees.
