https://www.icann.org/news/announcement-2020-10-02-en LOS ANGELES – 2 October 2020 – Today, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) 2020 Nominating Committee is pleased to announce the selections for seven leadership positions as follows: ICANN Board of Directors Sarah Deutsch (North America) Avri Doria (North America) Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) Board of Directors James Gannon (Europe) At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) Pari Esfandiari (Europe) Gregory Shatan (North America) Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) Council Javier Rúa-Jovet (North America) Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council Olga Cavalli (Latin America and the Caribbean Islands) Those selected will begin their terms after the ICANN69 Virtual Annual General Meeting, which runs from 13-22 October 2020. Profile of Applicants The 2020 Nominating Committee received 96 applications from 65 women and 18 men (13 applicants chose not to disclose) during the application period from 18 December 2019 to 25 February 2020. The regional breakdown of this year's applicants was: · 22 from Africa · 28 from Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands · 7 from Europe · 22 from Latin America and the Caribbean Islands · 17 from North America The Nominating Committee is charged with recruiting and selecting a portion of ICANN's leadership. In doing so, the Nominating Committee is mandated to ensure that ICANN's overall leadership is diverse in geography, culture, skills, experience, and perspective. Further, selectees should: · Have integrity, objectivity, and sound judgment. · Support decision-making within groups. · Work effectively in English. · Understand ICANN's mission. · Be committed to ICANN's success. · Have experience in world affairs. · Contribute to cultural, professional, and geographic expertise. · Be able to work long and hard, generally as volunteers. Call for volunteers: NextGen@ICANN Mentors and Selection Committee Members

Dear All, ICANN invites ICANN's Supporting Organizations, Advisory Committees, Stakeholder Groups, Constituencies, and Regional At-Large Organizations to nominate volunteers to serve on the NextGen@ICANN Selection Committee and to serve as NextGen@ICANN mentors. Each group is welcome to nominate one individual for each role. How to apply? Candidates who volunteer to represent the ccNSO on the NextGen@ICANN Selection Committee, or who wish to serve as ccNSO appointed NextGen@ICANN mentor, should send their expression of interest and a short bio to joke.braeken(a)icann.org<mailto:joke.braeken@icann.org>, no later than Thursday, 8 October 2020 (23:59 UTC). Selection Committee: A time commitment of approximately 20 hours over three weeks for each application round is required. Selection Committee members will typically serve for two years, or six application rounds. Mentors: A time commitment of approximately 24 hours each round is expected, including extensive pre-meeting preparation and on-site support for their assigned NextGen mentees. Mentors spend about 10 hours per week during the 6-week preparation period in advance of the meeting and about two hours per day providing on-site support at the ICANN meeting. Mentors will typically serve for one year, or three meetings. To facilitate participation during the remote Public Meeting, the pilot program offers community members who have limited Internet capacity financial assistance to increase their Internet bandwidth during ICANN69. Reimbursement amounts of up to USD 60 will be provided to eligible applicants who purchase additional Internet bandwidth (capacity or data limits) for the duration of the month or billing cycle for October 2020. The services must be rendered by a business entity or Internet service provider, specifically for Internet or cellular data service. The provider must also provide digital or paper documentation of the upgrade costs. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS To qualify for Internet service reimbursement: * Applicants must be active members of an ICANN community Supporting Organization or Advisory Committee and have been an ICANN funded traveler within 18 months prior to ICANN69 or must be selected to participate in the current ICANN69 Fellowship or the NextGen programs. * Applicants must be registered to attend, and participate in ICANN69. Participation will be validated by the support staff of the primary membership group of applicants. * Applicants must require additional bandwidth at home to facilitate their active participation in ICANN69. * Applicants must have a valid personal bank account for ICANN org to wire the reimbursement funds. * Applicants must apply for this program in advance of the meeting. The deadline to apply is Friday, 2 October 2020. While 2020 has proven challenging and likely very different from what we were all expecting when we last saw each other almost a year ago in Montréal, the Board and I keep being impressed and grateful for your continued dedication to ICANN’s mission. The Board still values its dialogue with your groups and is very much looking forward to engaging with you during our 22nd and first ever virtual Annual General Meeting that will take place between 13-22 October 2020. As you keep working on the format for ICANN69, we would like to start preparing for community dialogue with the Board. As per what we did in Montréal and virtually for ICANN67, instead of sending up to three questions to the Board, we would like to offer you the alternative option of choosing a single topic and having an open discussion with the Board on that topic. We will also publish the list of questions or topics received using this digest as a successful tool for improving transparency and allowing other groups to deepen their own understanding of their peers’ point of view on different issues. As for time allocation, per what we did previously, we propose to allocate half of our time together to answer your questions or discuss your single topic and the other half to address the Board’s topic. In preparation for our meetings, the Board has chosen the following topic to have an open discussion with you: Enhancing the effectiveness of the multistakeholder model - key issues and opportunities for acceleration. In your preparation, you may want to consider the results of the most recent public consultation and the work that has progressed with dependencies to enhancing the effectiveness of the multistakeholder model, such as the Accountability and Transparency Review Team (ATRT3) Final Report and work on prioritization and budgeting). We would be very grateful if you could send to Board Operations, board-ops-team(a)icann.org, your single topic or list of questions, in order of priority, no later than Monday, 5 October 2020 or sooner. Communities may choose to appoint program alumni and are encouraged to appoint active community members who have an interest in mentoring students. There are three slots available for mentors, and five slots for selection committee members. Each SO/AC is asked to nominate candidates for both positions. Individual self-nominations will not be considered. Interested community groups should select their respective NextGen@ICANN volunteers by 15 October and notify Deborah Escalera at nextgen(a)icann.org. ICANN Reserve Fund update replenishment

Dear All, Please see a news item below on the ICANN Reserve Fund. A New Milestone for ICANN's Reserve Fund by Xavier Calvez, SVP, Planning & Chief Financial Officer Two years ago during ICANN63, the ICANN Board approved an eight-year plan to replenish the ICANN Reserve Fund to an amount equal to one year of operating expenses as the minimum target level of the Reserve Fund.
