ccNSO Council 2025 Elections: Candidate List and Upcoming Steps The nomination period for the 2025 ccNSO Council elections closed on 30 September 2025 at 23:59 UTC. The following candidates have been nominated, seconded, and accepted their nominations: * Asia Pacific: Boyoung Kim, Sami Mohamed Ali * Europe: Chris Disspain * Latin America/Caribbean: Alejandra Reynoso * North America: Charles Noir Candidate statements, if provided, are attached. One nominee from the Latin America/Caribbean region declined the nomination. The acceptance of the nomination by the African region nominee is still pending. Candidate Q&A Session A Q&A session will be held on Wednesday, 29 October 2025 (15:00–16:00 UTC) during ICANN84. This Question-and-Answer session offers ccNSO members a chance to engage with the candidates before the election. Andrew Lewela (.ke) will moderate the session. Background on ccNSO Council Elections The ccNSO Council consists of 18 Councillors, representing 5 ICANN geographical regions. Each region has 3 Councillors, with 15 elected by ccNSO members within their respective regions and 3 appointed by the ICANN Nominating Committee. If a region has the same number of nominees as available seats at the nomination deadline, those nominees are elected by default, and no election will be held for that region. * Regions without elections: Africa, Europe, Latin America/Caribbean, North America. * Region with election: Asia/Australia/Pacific Election Timeline for Region requiring Elections Start: Tuesday, 18 November 2025, by 23:59 UTC End: Tuesday, 9 December 2025, 23:59 UTC Ballots will be emailed to the ccNSO emissaries before voting begins. Apply Now for ccNSO Travel Funding for ICANN85 The ccNSO is now accepting applications for travel support to attend the ICANN85 Community Forum, which will take place from 7–12 March 2026 in Mumbai, India. Applications for ccNSO travel support are open from Monday, 13 October 2025, until Friday, 24 October 2025 (noon UTC). Please note that applications submitted before or after this period will not be considered. SUPPORT GOAL. The goal of the ccNSO Travel Support is to provide travel funding to ICANN Public Meetings, paid for by ICANN, to a limited number of ccNSO community members. Travel support is intended for community members who are expected to make significant contributions during the meeting for which they seek funding, or whom the Travel Support Committee wishes to encourage to participate more broadly. APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS. Eligible ccNSO supported travelers are individuals associated with a ccTLD, ccNSO Councilors and members from the broader ccTLD community, including, in no particular order: * Speakers at ccNSO-relevant sessions during ICANN public meetings. This includes presenters, session chairs, moderators or session facilitators. * Members, including Chairs or Vice Chairs, of ccNSO Working Groups or Committees actively meeting at the ICANN meeting * Individuals appointed by Council to a ccNSO-relevant role within the ICANN ecosystem (also referred to as "External appointments by Council") APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS. Review all materials and fill in the form located here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TravelICANN85_apply All applications should be submitted in English. Applications for ccNSO travel support are open from Monday, 13 October 2025, until Friday, 24 October 2025 (noon UTC). Please note that applications submitted before or after this period will not be considered. NEXT STEPS. Once the application window is closed, the ccNSO Council Travel Fund Committee will evaluate all applications. The outcome of the committee's deliberations will be published on the ccNSO website. All applicants will receive a personal notification by 1 November 2025. ICANN TRAVEL SUPPORT. The ccNSO receives a total of 17 travel slots to allocate per ICANN meeting, paid for by ICANN, including 8 reserved for ccNSO Council members. A travel slot comprises one or more of three main categories of travel expenses: an economy class ticket to the travel destination; accommodation for the approved duration of the trip; and meals and other incidental expenses. Allocations in the three categories may be split among supported travelers, provided that the total allocation for all three categories amounts to one complete funded travel slot. ICANN might require funded Travelers to sign an acknowledgement and waiver, built in the meeting registration for anyone that is registering for in-person participation. Instructions on how to book travel will be provided by ICANN Travel Support to funded travelers who are confirmed and eligible. To determine the distribution of the ccNSO slots, your action is required by 18 October 2025 (23:59 UTC). Instructions and background information are included below. Thank you. Please coordinate with the other two Councillors from your region to agree on how this slot will be allocated. WHAT IS INCLUDED | ccNSO travel funding covers an economy class return ticket to the traveldestination, the hotel costs for the time of the meeting and a per diem. (Either full or partial funding). BACKGROUND | The ccNSO has 17 full travel slots for ICANN85, of which 8 are allocated to the Council. According to the applicable guideline (section 5.1): Three (3) travel slots are reserved for the NomCom-appointed ccNSO Councillors. At least one (1) Councillor from each ICANN geographic region is eligible for travel support. Within each geographic region, the Councillors decide among themselves who will receive funding and notify the secretariat. If all three Councillors from a region decline the travel funding, the unused slot is returned to the general pool and reallocated to the broader ccTLD community. Similarly, if any NomCom-appointed Councillor declines their funding, the corresponding slot also goes back into the “Broader ccTLD community” category. The remaining 9 full travel slots are allocated directly to the “Broader ccTLD community” category. Members of the ccTLD community, including Councillors not funded through the above mechanisms, can apply for these travel slots by completing an application form available on the ccNSO website. Detailed instructions will be shared via ccNSO mailing lists and published on the website. The ccNSO Travel Fund Committee will meet shortly after closure of the application window. The committee will need to evaluate all applications received via the online form - excluding the 5+3 Council slots - and make an informed decision on the distribution of the slots. The ccNSO Secretariat will submit the ccNSO travel fund database to ICANN Travel support by the deadline stipulated by ICANN org. All applicants will be informed about the outcome of the deliberations, and the list of ccNSO funded travelers will be posted on the ccNSO website. Call for newcomers Help Support Newcomers at the ccNSO Meeting in Prague As you may have noted, the ccNSO has launched a mentoring program to support newcomers and help them navigate ccNSO meetings more easily. A key part of this initiative is pairing newcomers with experienced community members—our "ccNSO buddies"—who can help lower the threshold for participation and enhance engagement during meetings. As a follow-up to our recent call for ccNSO buddies, we are now reaching out to you to ask for your support in identifying newcomers from your organization who will be attending the ICANN 84 meeting in Dublin: * For the First-time or second-time attendees, or * Individuals returning to ccNSO meetings after an extended absence If someone from your organization meets this description, we kindly ask you to: 1.
