Hi Everyone, When organising meetings for CENTR I learned that dedicating part of the meeting to a theme works very well. It keeps the discussions focussed and ranks up "show and tell" presentations in a way that make them much more meaningful . I agree with Don that we shouldn't be to specific on timing. Let's leave that to the Secretariat . As some members want to share a latest update from their registry - for a number of reasons - and I strongly feel that all contributions should be welcomed I suggest to create a session with short slots where people can share experiences that do not fit the theme. AT CENTR we call it 5@5 - which makes no sense at all as there are most of the time less or more than 5 speakers and none of them speaks for 5 minutes. I w ould leave it up to the good judgement of the Secretariat to find external speakers , engage silent members, engage new members. (from the last few dozen new members we haven't seen much participation) All this should allow us to make more time available to have real discussions and exchange opinions on the latest ICANN papers or have in depth discussions based on valuable contributions such as Hilde's and Annebeth's paper on ccTLD/gTLD differences. I think the council should identify the objectives of the ccNSO member's meetings, such as... - To establish relevant policy recommendations for the ICANN Boards consideration - To share experiences and initiatives and their results and rationale - To provide other relevant input into the ICANN communities and its respective constituencies - To promote and disseminate good practice (whatever that means) - or whatever Perhaps, and only perhaps, some guidelines to include presentations from peers or from non-peers, or some combination. And also some budget, if any, to facilitate speakers - travel, remote video, accommodation, etc. etc., etc. Then, leave it up to the meeting organiser to fill the program - with input from the community (including but not limited to the Chair or Council) on topics and suggested speakers. Personally, I think that there should always be: - Engagement with the GAC, with the gNSO - Opportunities with ALAC - Opportunities for the Regional Organization - Opportunities for the host - Opportunities from the Technical Communities - Opportunities for ICANN Board and Management - Opportunities for the Registrars Communities The ccNSO has, effectively, three days available to it, based on recent meetings. We send it on the ccNSO mailing list today, with the information that it will constitute our submission under the new gTLD process (New gTLD Applicant Guidebook). The comment period closes 15th December (extended), so any further comments from members in the ccNSO must be in our hands at the latest Friday 13th at noon, our time. Provided no wild protests arise, we will submit the final document to ICANN Friday afternoon. To answer your question below, we would be grateful if you could send this document to the council and possibly mention it during your council meeting tomorrow. Views and hopefully support from the council will be most welcome.
