PPC Focus Group Summary Report

Dear Councillors, During yesterday¹s Council call we were discussing the Public Participation Committee (PPC) Update and I was tasked to find out whether there were any recent updates from the Focus group. Sokol has kindly provided a short update which I'm pasting into this email. Attached is also the report which Sokol posted to the Council email list on the 29 August. Hi Chair and Councillors, As discussed earlier, the WG charter is as attached. Key things to note: 1. This WG arised as a result of the ICANN Board resolution (2010.12.10.30) in Cartagena. 2. CCI is part of the Affirmation of Commitments (AoC) 3. The WG report is meant for consideration by the SO/ACs and not as a response to the Board. 4. The WG is open to all those interested in participating from the GNSO, CCNSO, At-Large, and GAC. A WG update reported is expected to be produced for the ICANN Dakar Meeting in Oct 2011. IDN Variant Issues Project publishes Chinese and Devanagari Study Reports

Dear all, ICANN’s IDN Variant Issues project, which is identifying issues involved in the delegation and use of IDN Variant TLDs, has been working on writing reports on issues associated with Arabic, Devanagari, Chinese, Cyrillic, Greek and Latin scripts. The Chinese and Devanagari Study Reports are now posted and open for public comments: Chinese: http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-03oct11-en.htm Devanagari: http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-2-03oct11-en.htm The comment period ends on 14 November 2011. The reports to the remaining scripts are expected to be published shortly. ICANN has also formed an expert team which will advice ICANN in completing an issues report which will summarise all issues identified in the various scripts. The team will start its work at the Senegal meeting. An open public session will be held where the case studies will be presented and an update on the issues report will be given.
