Dear All, The Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) Implementation Guidelines relate to the IDN registration policies and practices, designed to minimize the risk of cybersquatting and consumer confusion, to cater to the interests of communities using local languages and scripts. Following the Call for Community Experts[icann.org]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.icann.org_news_ann…>, a Working Group (WG) was formed in October 2015 to review the current version (3.0[icann.org]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.icann.org_resource…>) of the IDN Implementation Guidelines[icann.org]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.icann.org_resource…>, last updated in 2011. The WG updated the Guidelines and conducted the first public comment[icann.org]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.icann.org_public-2…> on them in March 2017. Based on the feedback received from the community, the WG has further updated the draft guidelines. Dear all, The ICANN 2017 Nominating Committee is pleased to announce its selections for the Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) Board of Directors. * Lise Katrine Fuhr, Europe (Two-year term) * Wei Wang, Asia, Australia, and Pacific Islands (Three-year term) * Fuhr and Wang will take up their positions immediately after ICANN's Annual General Meeting, which will take place from 28 October to 3 November in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Nominating Committee is charged with recruiting and selecting a portion of ICANN's leadership. The Nominating Committee is mandated to ensure that ICANN's overall leadership is diverse in geography, culture, skills, experience, and perspective. Selectees should have the following basic criteria: • Understand ICANN's mission and operation. • Are committed to ICANN's success. • Work effectively in English. • Have integrity, objectivity, and sound judgment. • Support decision-making within groups. Proposal for Cyrillic Script Root Zone Label Generation Rules

Dear all, The Cyrillic script community has formed the Cyrillic script Generation Panel (GP), which in turn has developed a Proposal for the Cyrillic Script Root ZoneLabel Generation Rules (Proposal<https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/proposal-cyrillic-lgr-17oct17-e…> [XML, 19 KB] and Proposal Documentation<https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/proposal-cyrillic-lgr-17oct17-e…>[PDF, 1.23 MB]). As per the LGR Procedure<https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/lgr-procedure-20mar13-en.pdf> [PDF, 772 KB], this proposal is being posted for public comments to allow those who have not participated in the Cyrillic script GP to make their views known to the GP. Based on the feedback, the Cyrillic script GP will finalize the proposal for submission for integration into the Label Generation Rules for the Root Zone. The scope that will be submitted to the Board is attached, and it includes: - A review of the implementation of first RT's Recommendations (including an evaluation of the implementation, its effectiveness at addressing the original issue (the limited scope proposal). - Identify changes in the current WHOIS since the last RT and identify any issues. - Evaluate the extent to which the current system meets the legitimate needs of law enforcement - Evaluate the extent to which the current system addresses consumer trust. - Evaluate the extent to which the current system safeguards registrant data. - Assess the effectiveness and transparency of ICANN Contractual Compliance. - Assess the current Bylaw regarding RDS-WHOIS Reviews In all cases, the scope includes making recommendations if applicable. If the above shorthand differed from the attached document, the document is the authoratative version. The RT will not be formally meeting in Abu Dhabi but I would be glad to meet with you if you feel that is useful. My two Vice-Chairs may be available as well. ICANN Holds the First Capacity Building Workshop for GAC Members from the Middle East and GAC Newcomers

Dear all, ICANN is pleased to announce the first capacity building workshop for the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC[gacweb.icann.org]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__gacweb.icann.org_displ…>) Middle East members and GAC newcomers. The workshop is organized by ICANN in cooperation with the ICANN Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) Under-served Regions Working Group. It will be held on 28 October, on the first day of ICANN's 60th Public Meeting (ICANN60<https://meetings.icann.org/en/abudhabi60>), in Abu Dhabi, United Arabic Emirates (UAE) with the support of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA)[tra.gov.ae]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.tra.gov.ae_&d=DwMF…> of the UAE. This is the first capacity building workshop targeting GAC members in the Middle East.
