The ICANN Pandemic Internet Access Reimbursement Program aims to facilitate the active participation in ICANN Public Meetings Meeting for certain community members with limited Internet capacity by offering financial assistance to increase their Internet bandwidth during the meeting. Registration for ICANN74 Policy Forum in The Hague, Netherlands is Now Open Registration for ICANN74 (13-16 June 2022) in The Hague, Netherlands is now open. ICANN74 will take place as a hybrid event to accommodate both in-person and virtual participation. While the ICANN74 Policy Forum presents the first opportunity for the community to come together in more than two years, the health and safety of all community members and staff continues to be ICANN's key priority. Information Sharing NEW: Assumptions & Policy Questions for Subsequent Procedures Operational Design Phase The ICANN org SubPro ODP Project Team continues to work on drafting a full set of Assumptions and Policy related questions regarding the SubPro ODP. As a reminder, to submit any feedback on the SubPro ODP please email subpro-odp(a)icann.org NEW: Update on ICANN Work Stream 2 Implementation The ICANN organization (org) has made significant progress addressing Work Stream 2 (WS2) implementation since our last blog on this subject. WS2 of the Cross-Community Working Group on Enhancing ICANN Accountability (CCWG-ACCT) comprises nearly 100 accountability and transparency-related recommendations, directed at ICANN org, the ICANN Board, and the ICANN community, which serve to ensure ICANN remains accountable to the multistakeholder community. NEW: ICANN Publishes U.S. Tax Returns for Fiscal Year Ending 30 June 2021 ICANN and its affiliate Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) published several returns required by the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the California Franchise Tax Board, and the California Attorney General's office for nonprofit organizations for the fiscal year ending 30 June 2021. ICANN and its affiliate filed IRS Form 990, the U.S. tax form that nonprofit organizations exempt from income taxes are required to file, pursuant to Section 501(c) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Read more. NEW: Challenges with Alternative Name Systems The Domain Name System (DNS) is a component of the system of unique identifiers ICANN helps to coordinate. It is the main naming system for the Internet. It is not the only one. Some naming systems predate the DNS, and others have been recently proposed in the wake of the blockchain approach of decentralized systems. Read more. NEW: Chair's Blog: Preview of April-May 2022 Board Workshop Last week the ICANN Board of Directors held a virtual Board Workshop from 28 April to 1 May. The workshops took place following a two-day virtual meeting of the leaders of the ICANN Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees. Both meetings provide a good opportunity to further discuss and prepare for our planned hybrid ICANN74 Policy Forum in June. Read more. DEADLINE WEDNESDAY: Request for Input - GNSO Statement of Interest The GNSO Council has recently embarked on a review of its Statement of Interest (SOI) requirements to determine whether these are still fit for purpose, and if not, what updates should be considered. To this end, the GNSO SOI Task Force (TF) was formed. As part of its assignment, the TF is reaching out to the ICANN community to solicit input on the current use and experience with SOIs as well as suggestions for possible improvements. We understand that some of you may use the SOI, either in its current form or a modified format, for your own purposes. We would be interested to hear about those experiences as well as any lessons learned that may help inform our recommendations. You are encouraged to share this information with your respective groups. To provide input, please complete the following survey by Wednesday, 4 May. Your input will be much appreciated! REMINDER: Call for Expressions of Interest: ICANN 2023 NomCom Chair and Chair-Elect ICANN org seeks Expressions of Interest for the chair and chair-elect of the 2023 Nominating Committee (NomCom). Expressions of Interest, which will be maintained as confidential, should be sent to NomComChair2023(a)icann.org by no later than Monday, 9 May 2022. REMINDER: ICANN's 2022 Middle East DNS Forum to Take Place Virtually in May ICANN org's eighth Middle East Domain Name System (DNS) Forum will take place virtually from Monday-Wednesday, 16-18 May 2022 and will offer a closer look at the evolving DNS ecosystem from a technical and policy perspective.
