Communities may choose to appoint program alumni and are encouraged to appoint active community members who have an interest in mentoring students. There are three slots available for mentors, and five slots for selection committee members. Each SO/AC is asked to nominate candidates for both positions. Individual self-nominations will not be considered. Interested community groups should select their respective NextGen@ICANN volunteers by Sunday, 15 November 2020 and notify Deborah Escalera at nextgen(a)icann.org. NEW: Enhancing the Effectiveness of ICANN’s Multistakeholder Model Moves into Implementation Author: Maarten Botterman, Chair, ICANN Board of Directors Last year, the ICANN Board initiated a project aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of ICANN's multistakeholder model – one of the strategic objectives outlined in ICANN's Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years (FY) 2021-2025. This effort is critical to ensuring that the multistakeholder model is able to evolve and meet the ever-changing needs of ICANN's global community. In June, the Board posted its paper, "Enhancing the Effectiveness of ICANN's Multistakeholder Model – Next Steps," for Public Comment. The paper lays out a comprehensive plan for continuous improvement of the multistakeholder model. Following the close of the Public Comment period in August, the Board worked to incorporate the community's input into an updated version of the paper, which is available here. With the ICANN Board paper now finalized, this project is moving into the 'implementation planning' phase, where the plan will be converted into a set of proposed actions, with resource allocation, and will be scheduled for implementation according to the agreed-upon level of priority. REMINDER: ICANN69 Topics for Joint Meetings with the ICANN Board Please refer to this workspace for a compilation of areas of interest submitted by ICANN community groups for discussion with the ICANN Board at the ICANN69 Virtual Annual General Meeting. For ICANN67, the campaign asked participants to share photos of their workspace; for ICANN68, we asked for photos of the city from where participants joined the meeting. For ICANN69, the campaign is called #ICANNintermission. This time, we are asking members of the ICANN community, ICANN Board, and ICANN org to send us photos of what they like to do between sessions (yoga, going for a run, playing with their pets, playing soccer with their kids, etc.). We need a few photos to get the campaign started! Photos need to be in landscape mode, (see example above) preferably with the subject in the center to crop the image. REMINDER: Making ICANN Public Meetings Work for You From: Göran Marby, ICANN President and CEO The ICANN Board is seeking community feedback to assess the effectiveness of our virtual Public Meetings, the improvements that the org should make to its support for the community’s work at meetings, and any other aspects that should be integrated into our in-person meeting strategy going forward. ICANN org is sending a survey to our Supporting Organization (SO) and Advisory Committee (AC) chairs to spark a discussion within each group, as this discussion belongs to the community. The chairs will then coordinate and consolidate their respective group’s feedback. The Board will also host a session at ICANN69 to continue the conversation with the community about our meeting strategy. The survey will serve as a guidepost for those discussions. Board Seat 12: confirmation elections starting on 4 November 2020 (00:01 UTC)

Dear Councillors, I am referring to the message by Nigel Roberts, where he mentioned that he withdraws his name for consideration for the Board Seat 12 term that is scheduled to start in October 2021. Please find Nigel’s message attached. This is to confirm that an election will continue to be held - starting on 4 November 2020 (00:01 UTC), according to the timeline previously agreed upon by the ccNSO Council. The ballot will include 2 options: - the name of the candidate (one) - none of the above When selecting "None of the above", a ccTLD Manager believes that the candidate listed is not qualified to serve on the ICANN Board of Directors. A formal election notice will be posted on the ccNSO website and circulated on the ccNSO members mailing list, closer to the start of the elections. Update Selecting members for the Community Representatives Group, which will select the Independent Review Process (IRP) Standing Panel Background: ICANN has proposed Terms of Reference (ToR) for the Community Representatives Group, which will select the Independent Review Process (IRP) Standing Panel. The goal is that the group the Group will be kept small, comprise of an odd number (at least 7, but not more than 15, members), be as diverse as is feasible, and possess certain skillsets in the aggregate. The ToR also notes that the Group will seek to act by consensus, select its own Chair, and maintain confidentiality of its deliberations while maintaining as much transparency as is practicable (e.g. publication of the final ToR, the Group members’ Statements of Interest and other relevant documents). The ccNSO is now asked to launch a call for Expression of Interest as soon as possible 1. Update Council Election process Update by Council election process Manager 1. Implementation plan results Council workshop October 2019 and June 2020 Overview and suggestion for implementation of results of the Council Workshops Background: at its meeting in August the Council agreed on following actions to enhance the capabilities of the ccNSO to address the opportunities and threats of the changing environment: 1. Increase the level of interest (in ccNSO in general and its meetings) and number of volunteers and participants (in WGs, Committees and as Councillors) (recommendation 2a, 2b and 5 ccNSO review). This is to be achieved by increasing the targeted outreach and engagement efforts. The Council should create a standing committee which is tasked to develop and maintain an outreach framework/strategy and oversee all outreach and engagement efforts (recommendations WS 2 and Review) currently undertaken by the ccNSO Council, secretariat and WGs. Such a framework should include the organization of introductory and informative webinars prior to public meetings, evolution of the ccNSO newsletter etc. Goal is to lower barriers to participation in attending meetings and participation in working groups and committees and to become a Councillor. 2. Instrumental to increase and maintain interest and particpation in the ccNSO are: o The re-design and re-tooling of the ccNSO Website (recommendation 11 Review, Council Workshop ICANN66 and 68). This website is in use “as is” since December 2010. The website structure needs to improve to allow better access to information and searchability. Tools need to be available for easier maintenance and enable more and easier updating. The “look and feel” needs to be more appealing and up to date. o Real-time scribing of ccNSO Members Day and Tech Day meetings would support and maintain high level of interest in ccNSO and ccNSO related meetings (recommendation review # ) . 1.
