Los Angeles ccNSO Travel Funding Application Period Open

Dear all, The ccNSO travel funding committee is now accepting applications to the ICANN meeting in Los Angeles, USA 12 16 October 2014. Funding is made available for those who actively participate in the work of the ccNSO and make a special contribution to its projects and meetings. However, you do not need to be a ccNSO member to receive funding! The funding covers an economy class ticket to the travel destination, the hotel costs for the time of the meeting and a per diem. A document with background information and explanations on how the funding shall be distributed is available at: http://ccnso.icann.org/about/travel-funding-12feb13-en.pdf. If you think you are eligible to receive funding for the Los Angeles meeting, please fill in and submit the travel funding application form http://www.ccnso.icann.org/about/travel-funding by 12.00 noon UTC on 27 June 2014, at the latest. Please, note the requirement for contributions to the work of the ccNSO. Typical contributions can be an active engagement in a ccNSO working group, a presentation or other engagements that strengthen the activities of the ccNSO. Framework of Interpretation WG

Hi all, My expectation that the Framework of Interpretation would be finalised for ICANN London has proved impossible, due to a number of "11th hour" issues raised by some WG members relating to the proposed final text. The WG will now seek to finalise the FOI during the London meeting, and therefore should have the final report shortly after the end of June. My apologies for this late change. Katrina, Bart, Gabi and Kristina, this will mean some necessary adjustments to the time required for FOIWG reports to the ccNSO and the GAC, so I will follow up with you all on this. Cheers Keith

Your help needed: Short *but important* survey on non-votes

Dear ccNSO members, We would be very grateful if you could help us on an important matter by participating in a really short survey (it only has 2-4 questions, depending on how you answer), dealing with the matter of "Non-votes" during voting and elections. As you know, we are in the pleasant position of being able to welcome more and more members. Today, the ccNSO counts 150 members, which we are really happy about and we hope to welcome many more. However, with a growing membership, the ccNSO has also started facing problems in reaching the quorum when members are asked to vote. A ccNSO working group tried to address this issue and came to the conclusion that there seem to be some cultural issues behind the interpretation of a "non-vote": in some areas, a non-vote might mean an ³abstention², in others - ³I do not subscribe to this policy². To handle this issue, a suggestion was made to let members define themselves how a ³non-vote² should be interpreted before every voting occasion. This would help the ccNSO to avoid misunderstandings and to reduce the necessity to run second rounds of voting and thus to avoid the fatigue of those members who do vote. This brief survey is aiming to find out how you, our members, view this suggestion, so that we know how to move forward on this matter.
