GNSO Liaison Update

Dear all, As Han Chuan can't attend today's Council meeting, so he is providing a written update, please, find it below. The current chair will not be able to run again due to term limitation. The houses will also be nominating the Vice Chairs. Internationalisation of WHOIS Data The revised Final Report by the Internationalized Registration Data Working Group should be approved on 27 Jun 2012 for delivery to the Board. Recommendation 4 in the reports states that "ICANN should take appropriate steps to require gTLD registries and registrars and persuade ccTLD registries and registrars to support the following standards: Domain Names - both A-label and U-label; nameserver Names- A-label, and optionally U-label; Telephone/fax- ITU-T E.123; Email-RFC 6531; Registration Status- Exact EPP status where applicable; Date and time - in UTC as specified in [RFC3339], with no offset from the zero meridian." SSAC is also looking at replacing the WHOIS protocol and implementing SAC 051 "SSAC Report on Domain Name WHOIS Terminology and Structure". The ccNSO Council may want to discuss this. Gabi == Re: Invitation to Breakfast with the Cross Constituency Group On behalf of the Chairs and Constituencies in the Commercial Stakeholder Group at ICANN, it is my pleasure to invite the ccTLD Community to a breakfast and informal dialogue. Date: Tuesday, June 26, 2012 Time: 7:30 a.m. - 8:45 am. Venue: Hilton Prague Room: The Atrium We usually take a very informal approach of randomly seating a mix of participants at round tables for a self-serve breakfast. We usually have a very informal 'program', which includes very brief remarks from the Chairs, including Lesley Cowley, Chair, CCNSO, and we put a few topics that could be the focus of table discussions at each table, just as suggestions. Each table's participants decide what they want to discuss. We would like to propose possible discussion at the tables on: · What does it mean for ICANN to act in the public interest? · Views on Risks and Threats to ICANN - External and Internal But, the primary purpose of the breakfast exchange is to meet each other. We hope this breakfast will be a good start on our communities getting better acquainted, and finding commonalities and mutual interests at ICANN. Background: The BC, IPC and ISPCP make up what is called the Commercial Stakeholders Group (CSG) in the Generic Names Supporting Organization. Members of these constituencies are not the contracted parties - the gTLD Registries or Registrars - but are businesses, law firms, consultancies that focus on business users interests and concerns. Accountability and transparency are significant priorities for us. Other areas where we often have common views include the ICANN Strategic Plan; the Budget and Operational Plan; the importance of ICANN improving its operational performance. Some of our participants are very involved in the external issues involving discussions about the role of the ITU or the UN in Internet governance. Our members look forward to this opportunity to interact informally over breakfast with the ccTLD community and its leaders. Marilyn Cade, Chair - Business Constituency
