The upcoming webinar, "ICANN for Beginners: Universal Acceptance," will introduce newcomers to the basics of Universal Acceptance (UA). UA is the bridge to a multilingual Internet. It enables people everywhere to access and use the Internet in their own languages and scripts which is essential to bringing the next billion users online. Webinar participants will learn more about UA and how they can get involved. The ICANN for Beginners Virtual Program comprises a series of interactive webinars held via Zoom and provides participants with an overview of the global Internet ecosystem. The program also describes how newcomers can join the global community and help shape Internet governance. Moderated by experienced ICANN staff members, the program aims to broaden participants' knowledge about, and foster participation at ICANN. The nomination period will close on 28 March 2023 at 23:59 UTC. Launched in 2014, the ICANN Community Excellence Award recognizes ICANN community members who have deeply invested in consensus-based solutions and contributed substantively to the ICANN multistakeholder model. The ideal recipient(s) will have: * Participated in the ICANN community for at least five years * Served in multiple ICANN working groups or committees * Collaborated with more than one Supporting Organization (SO) and/or Advisory Committee (AC) in a significant capacity Candidates will be evaluated by a panel of ICANN community members appointed by the SO/AC chairs. The panel will evaluate candidates using a merit-based point system and the following criteria: * Demonstrated ability to work across community lines with both familiar and unfamiliar ICANN stakeholders to build consensus * Facilitator of dialogue and open discussion in a fair and collegial manner, in a spirit of collaboration shown through empathy, and a sincere desire to engage with people from other backgrounds, cultures, and interests * Demonstrated additional support for the ICANN multistakeholder model and its overall effectiveness through volunteer service via working groups or committees Please submit your nominations via this nomination form<https://forms.gle/diH9Qd82omUfCQA7A> including detailed information outlining why the nominee meets the award criteria. Dear All, The ccNSO Council invites the ccTLD Community to join a public webinar on Thursday, 15 December 2022 at 13:00 UTC to further discuss the suggestions regarding what the ccNSO should do or should not do with respect to Universal Acceptance, in addition to what is already happening at the local and regional ccTLD level. The workshop will further explore the expectations by the ccTLD community regarding potential ccNSO action on Universal Acceptance, and how to organize next efforts. Following conclusion of the workshop, the ccNSO Council will develop a plan which will be presented to the ccTLD community at the upcoming ICANN76 Community Forum in Cancun (MX), held 11-16 March 2023. Dear all, The ccNSO Policy Development Process Review Mechanism Working Group (ccPDP3WG-RM) has recently completed its initial draft for a recommended policy for a mechanism to review specific decisions pertaining to the delegation, transfer, revocation, and retirement of country code top-level domains (ccTLDs). The objective of the policy is to offer ccTLD managers, and applicants for new ccTLDs, an independent review mechanism for a limited set of decisions, which are detailed in the Initial Report. To seek community input and comments a public comment period started on 29 November 2022 and will close on 24 January 2023 (see: https://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/proceeding/initial-report-on-the-cc…) . This webinar will cover identical content as the webinar on 1 December 2022, and is scheduled to accommodate participants in different time zones. The Grant Program is the culmination of years of work by the ICANN community. It is a testament to the multistakeholder model in action, as well as to the ICANN organization's ability to deliver on the community's recommendations. The Grant Program will distribute the proceeds from auctions of last resort in the 2012 New gTLD Program. Once launched, it will be open to applications from any eligible organization across the world for projects that are supportive of ICANN's mission. Through this program, ICANN will support creativity and innovation that furthers our vision of a single, open, and globally interoperable Internet. This webinar will report on recent updates regarding the preliminary implementation design, the work ahead as the implementation design evolves, and the forecasted timeline leading to the first grant cycle. INVITATION: Guideline Review Committee Subgroup on Implementation

Dear all, As you will recall the ICANN Board has recently (September 2022) adopted the ccNSO policy on retirement of ccTLDs. The ccNSO is currently working on two other policy initiatives: review mechanism and selection of IDN ccTLD strings. At one point, these proposed policies will need to be implemented before they become operational. Although the development of ccNSO policies is first and foremost a matter of the ccNSO, the implementation of these policies is undertaken by ICANN org. However, it is anticipated that during the implementation process of these policies the ccNSO may be asked to provide clarification and/or provide other input. To provide a structured approach the ccNSO Guideline Review Committee was asked by Council to develop guidance on how the ccNSO could assist and advise on implementation of policies developed through the ccNSO Policy development process. The GRC decided on the 21 November 2022 to use the sub-group structure to develop a ccNSO Implementation guideline. The TMCH-CA is set to expire on 23 July 2023. For continued operation, a new TMCH-CA certificate has been generated and published, and is now available for testing by registries, registrars, trademark holders, and agents. More information is available here. Read more. NEW: ICANN Launches New RFC Annotations Project ICANN released the first version of its new Request For Comments (RFC) Annotations project. The purpose of this new project is to allow developers and security researchers to see commentary on the RFC documents from the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) that make up the Domain Name System (DNS) protocol. The DNS-related RFCs can be viewed with annotations, such as updates to the RFCs and commentary on parts of the protocols. Read more.
