Breakfast with Board

All, I'd like to suggest a format for our breakfast tomorrow. - a brief opener from me: the top 3 issues we'd like to engage with Board members on. - ditto from Peter. - over to the tables to discuss at their tables. If your happy with that we will endeavour to ensure that Board and Council are well mixed at the tables. Working Group Chairs' report

Dear all, As I mentioned in an earlier email, we are introducing a new session this time called "ccNSO Working Group and Accomplishment Panel" on Tuesday afternoon. Instead of giving a regular update, Working Group Chairs who don't have an immediate need to communicate something to the community will submit a written report on their Working Group's work prior to the meeting and will then be available for your questions in this panel. Other persons who have "accomplished" something noteworthy between the meetings will also be available. At this meeting I will be available for your questions on the DNSSEC survey report, which was published a few weeks ago. ccNSO Travel Funding Open for Nairobi Applications

Dear ccTLD community, The ccNSO travel funding committee is now accepting applications to the ICANN meeting in Nairobi 7 - 12 March 2010. Funding is made available for those who actively participate in the work of the ccNSO and make a special contribution to its projects and meetings. However, you do not need to be a ccNSO member to receive funding! The funding covers an economy class ticket to the travel destination, the hotel costs for the time of the meeting and a per diem. All travel arrangements are made through specially dedicated ICANN staff. A document with background information and explanations on how the funding shall be distributed is available at http://www.ccnso.icann.org/about/ccnso-travel-funding-04nov08.pdf If you think you are eligible to receive funding for the Nairobi meeting, please send an email to ccnso-travelfunding(a)icann.org by the 6th November 2009, at the latest. The email must contain the name and contact details of the applicant as well as a short description of how you think you can contribute to the work of the ccNSO. Of particular note are phishing attacks by the Avalanche group that are concentrating efforts on particular registrars and TLDs, including several ccTLDs, and represent nearly a quarter of all phishing attacks this year. Highlights of the study include: * Phishing attack and uptime statistics for all TLDs. * Statistics for domain name registrations made by phishers, versus phish on compromised (hacked) web servers used by innocent registrants * The average uptime of all phishing attacks was noticeably shorter than in 2008. * The amount of Internet domain names and numbers used for phishing has remained fairly steady over the past two years. * One criminal operation known as "Avalanche" is now responsible for a quarter of the phishing attacks in the world. * The great majority of phishing is concentrated in just a few namespaces. * The unique characteristics of IDNs are not being used to facilitate phishing, and there are factors that may perpetuate this trend in the future.
