Information Sharing NEW: ICANN's Contractual Compliance Announces New Audit Round On Monday, 4 April, ICANN org launched a new audit round aimed at testing and validating Registry Operators' compliance with the terms of the Registry Agreement (RA) and ICANN's temporary and consensus policies. This audit follows the 2021 audit round, which was aimed at reviewing how registrars are fulfilling their contractual obligations related to addressing reports of potentially abusive domains. The ccNSO secretariat initiated the selection process, and sent instructions and all application materials to all Councillors - with the exception of Chris Disspain, as he is a candidate himself. The ccNSO DNS Abuse Standing Committee (DASC) is intended to maintain a dedicated forum for ccTLD Managers to discuss the important topic of DNS Abuse and to share information, insights, and practices. It is primarily aimed at ccTLD Managers who participate within the ICANN community but is not limited to ccNSO members. Participation is purely voluntary. In keeping with the nature of the ccNSO, the purpose of the Committee is not to formulate any policy or standards, recognising that policy development in this area is out of scope of the ccNSO policy remit. The overarching purpose is to raise understanding and awareness of the issues pertaining to DNS Abuse, promote open and constructive dialogue, and ultimately to assist ccTLD Managers in their efforts to mitigate the impact of DNS Abuse. In undertaking its activities, the Committee is not mandated nor shall it act as a representative of nor act on behalf of the ccNSO, ccNSO Membership, ccNSO Council or individual ccTLD Managers collectively or individually. Scope of activities The main areas of activities are: * Enhance sharing of information and practices for the benefit of ccTLDs * Showcase ccTLD efforts * Reinforce the message about the nature of ccTLDs and the (limited) role of the ccNSO when addressing other stakeholders in the DNS ecosystem * Share DNS Abuse related metrics The Committee is expected to create and maintain a repository of useful resources for ccTLD managers. Workload & working method The DASC will starts its work around ICANN74 in June 2022, and is expected to convene via recorded teleconferences every other week. The EU Toolbox Against Counterfeiting is part of the EC's Intellectual Property (IP) Action Plan. The initiative seeks to step up the fight against counterfeiting by clarifying the roles and responsibilities of rights holders, intermediaries, and public authorities with respect to mutual cooperation and data sharing. It is especially aimed at enhancing cooperation between parties. Intermediaries are identified as social media platforms, the domain name ecosystem, payment services, and the transport and logistics industries. Read more. ICANN Launches the Special Interest Forum on Technology Discussion Platform

https://www.icann.org/en/announcements/details/icann-launches-the-special-i… ICANN Launches the Special Interest Forum on Technology Discussion Platform 7 April 2022 ________________________________ Today, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is pleased to announce the launching of a new discussion platform, Special Interest Forum on Technologies (SIFT). The platform will provide the ICANN community a specific place online to discuss thematic and technical issues, and to promote knowledge sharing and discussions on the evolving Identifiers technologies and their impact on ICANN's mission. Anyone from the ICANN community may join SIFT. Members of the ICANN-supported discussion groups will be able to track conversations through mailing lists. Outcomes of discussions may result in further presentations and discussions during Emerging Identifier Technology (EIT) sessions, the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) team conducting additional research, or simply the creation of new thematic discussion boards. ICANN's mission is fundamentally rooted in the Internet's core technologies, which enable digital devices to find and communicate with each other over a single, global interconnected network called the Internet. This includes technologies like the Domain Name System (DNS) and unique identifiers like domain names, IP addresses, and various protocol parameter assignments. One of ICANN's strategic goals (3.2b) calls for a "Mechanism [to be] established with which ICANN assesses new technologies and, when appropriate, embraces them." SIFT provides a way to actively involve the community in monitoring, identifying, and assessing the identifier system's evolution. Over time, constituencies such as the Security and Stability Advisory Committee, Root Server System Advisory Committee (and its caucus), and the country code top-level domain names (ccTLD) and generic top-level domain names (gTLDs) technical working groups have focused their work on developments related to fundamental Internet technologies. They advise the ICANN Board or their own members on these issues. While this work takes place at different venues and forums outside of ICANN meetings, ICANN staff have observed at ICANN public engagements, that the community may benefit from an informal, central place within ICANN to openly discuss and engage on these topics. While discussions on SIFT are not part of the ICANN community's policy development processes, they may help further inform ICANN stakeholders on these issues as they engage in their policy development work. Clarifications regarding travel funding for Councillors for ICANN74

Dear Councillors, Yesterday I have sent emails to all Council members on a per-region basis, with instructions regarding travel funding for ICANN74. There were some questions, and I hope this email clarifies matters. The ccNSO has 17 full travel slots for ICANN74, and 8 slots are available to Council: As per the applicable guideline<https://ccnso.icann.org/sites/default/files/field-attached/ccnso-draft-oisc…> (section 5.1), three (3) ccNSO full travel funding slots will be available for the NomCom appointed ccNSO Councillors, and at least one (1) Councillor from every ICANN geographic region is eligible to receive travel support for an ICANN meeting. The Councillors representing the region are to decide among themselves who will receive funding to attend a meeting, and they inform the secretariat accordingly. The enclosed materials might be helpful in determining whether to attend ICANN74 in person. ccNSO travel funding covers an economy class ticket to the travel destination, the hotel costs for the time of the meeting and a per diem. (Either full or partial funding) Option 1: full funding Option 2: partial funding - flight Option 3: partial funding - hotel & per diem Out of the total 17 slots, 9 full slots are allocated to the “Broader ccTLD community” category. Members from the ccTLD community can apply for travel funding via an application form on the ccNSO website. If for instance all 3 Councillors from a specific geographic region decline the travel funding, that slot is allocated to the “Broader ccTLD community” category (bringing the total to 9 slots, plus 1). The same applies to the 3 slots for NomCom appointed Councillors: if one or more NomCom appointed Councillor declines the funding, the slot goes to the “Broader ccTLD community” category. If more than one Councillor from a geographic region wishes to use the travel funding, the Councillors representing the region still are to decide among themselves which of the 3 Councillors will be funded to attend a meeting, and to inform the secretariat accordingly. For ICANN74, the deadline is Monday, 11 April (COB). The remaining two Councillors can choose to apply for funding via the “Broader ccTLD community” mechanism, should they wish to do so, via the form on the ccNSO website. For ICANN74, the form is open until Thursday, 14 April 2022 (noon UTC). This is a strict deadline, no late submissions will be accepted. https://ccnso.icann.org/en/form/application-form A sub-committee of the ccNSO Outreach and Involvement Committee (OISC) will meet on Thursday, 14 April, shortly after closure of the application window. The OISC subcommittee will need to evaluate all applications received via the online form (excluding the 5+3 Council applications), and make an informed decision on the distribution of the slots. Selection Criteria Candidates from all regions and sectors may apply for ccNSO travel support. Decisions on whether to award travel support to an application shall be based on the merits of each application and the criteria included in this Guideline. In allocating slots, Travel Funding Committee members should be guided by the following principles, which - in order of priority - are: · Being an active member of the broader ccTLD Community. Details must be provided in the application on why and how the applicant is currently contributing to the work of the ccNSO. · To provide support for those who might not be able either to fund their involvement, or to justify the cost of attending the meeting without support. · To broaden participation in the ccNSO[1] . For ICANN74, the ccNSO secretariat needs to submit the travel database to ICANN travel support, latest on 15 April. This is a hard deadline. Dear All, It is now possible to apply for ccNSO travel support for the upcoming ICANN public meeting. ccNSO travel support is available for a limited set of travellers for ICANN74 (The Hague, Netherlands)<https://74.schedule.icann.org/> held 13-16 June 2022. The application window closes Thursday, 14 April 2022 (noon UTC). No late submissions will be accepted. What are the requirements for applicants? The applicant actively participates in the work of the ccNSO and makes a special contribution to its projects and meetings. Examples of contributions to the work of the ccNSO: an active engagement in a ccNSO working group, a presentation at the ccNSO member meeting, or other engagements that strengthen the activities of the ccNSO. Important: Applications which do not clearly state an active contribution, are not eligible and will not be taken into consideration. What is included? The funding covers an economy class ticket to the travel destination, the hotel costs for the time of the meeting and a per diem (either full funding, or partial funding).
