Greetings all. First, thank you Joke for hitting me over the head with this additional reminder regarding this matter. To my fellow Council members: My gut is telling me that we should have (at least) a representative (“observer”?) on this GNSO PDP. Perhaps I am mis-understanding what the GNSO means by “Transfer” in their sphere, in which case my concerns might well be mis-placed. However, from my position as the chair of the two WG’s involved in ccTLD Retirement policy and subsequent Review Mechanisms, I think there is a need for involvement in what the GNSO is about to embark on, at least informally. The Contracted Party House (CPH) DNS Abuse Group is conducting outreach to our friends in other SO/AC/SG/Cs regarding DNS Abuse. As previously noted by the CPH, DNS Abuse comprises five categories: phishing, pharming, malware, botnets, and spam when it acts as a delivery mechanism for one of the other forms of DNS Abuse. We want to open a more direct dialogue to understand pain points, hear suggestions and identify common ground where we can work together to mitigate DNS Abuse. Is there a subset of the ccNSO focusing on DNS Abuse questions that would be able to join the CPH DNS Abuse group on a call to discuss this topic? We want to encourage frank and productive discussions on the topic that lead to really informing our dialogues and actions. Discussion session on what needs to be included in future Rules of the ccNSO (if time permits) Informational Background The current Rules of the ccNSO have been established in 2004. Since 2004 the ccNSO itself and the environment in which it operates has evolved. For example, when the Rules were adopted in 2004, the ccNSO had around 50 members. Currently, there are 172 members. Another example, to address various needs of the growing (membership- and importance-wise) ccNSO, in 2007 the ccNSO started to develop internal procedures (guidelines) as envisioned in the Bylaws (currently, Article 10). Next example, the introduction of the Empowered Community and the role of the ccNSO as a decisional Participant. It is obvious that this new role was NOT envisioned at the time the Rules of the ccNSO were conceived. The need to update the Rules has been recognized and discussed by the ccNSO members at several meetings for the past 3 years. If time permits, this session is intended to ask Councillors through break-out rooms to identify topics and aspects of the ccNSO Governance you would like to see included in future Rules of the ccNSO. It offers financial assistance to ICANN community members who have limited Internet capacity to increase their Internet bandwidth. ICANN community members interested in the Pandemic Internet Access Reimbursement Program must apply in advance of ICANN70. Those who meet the eligibility requirements will be selected to participate. Nominations ICANN community leaders will have the opportunity to nominate recipients. This includes up to five nominees from each of the three Supporting Organizations, four Advisory Committees, four GNSO Stakeholder Groups and five GNSO Constituencies, and five RALOs from At-Large. In order to be reimbursed, all applicants must: Require additional bandwidth at home to facilitate their active participation during ICANN70. Have a valid personal bank account for ICANN org to wire the reimbursement funds. Register for ICANN70. Attend a minimum of four official ICANN70 sessions. Once ICANN community leaders have established their nominees, they can inform their nominees to apply for the program here beginning Monday, 8 February 2021. Information Sharing REMINDER: FY23 Strategic Outlook Program: Trend Identification Sessions From: Xavier Calvez, Senior Vice President, Planning and Chief Financial Officer ICANN is kicking off the FY23 Strategic Outlook trend identification process. ICANN community members will have the opportunity to participate in trend identification sessions via their Supporting Organization (SO) or Advisory Committee (AC). ICANN org will collaborate with SO and AC chairs and support teams to schedule their sessions over the next few weeks. We are targeting to complete the trend sessions by the end of March. All strategic outlook sessions will be conducted virtually. ICANN community members are encouraged to join this important discussion. Once complete, ICANN org will conduct a trend analysis and impact assessment. The Strategic Outlook Program is a joint effort of ICANN org, community, and Board to identify and track trends that are related to ICANN.
