Eighty-four percent of recent fellows remain involved with the ICANN community, according to a new three-year survey among fellowship participants from ICANN65 to ICANN71. Importantly and encouragingly, in-person and virtual fellows stayed engaged at the same high level of 84% of respondents. Read the recent blog post by Ergys Ramaj here. REMINDER: Nominations for ICANN Fellowship Program Mentors Now Open ICANN Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees are invited to nominate volunteers to serve as Fellowship Program Mentors for ICANN75-ICANN77. Each group is welcome to nominate one individual for this role, for a total of up to seven mentors. Nominations should be submitted by Friday, 25 February 2022 to fellowshipconsultation(a)icann.org. We blocked several attempts to send these phishing emails via the lists, but now they send them to individuals. They impersonate a participant from the CENTR Tech WG list, the ccNSO Members list or the TLD-OPS list. (and maybe others) They probably gained access to someone’s email archive and recycle old conversations. If you are subscribed to these three lists, you might want to verify and increase the security of your email archives. This report also reviews additional activities, looks ahead, and provides resources to enable sustained engagement on highlighted issues. ccNSO: what to expect at or around ICANN73? The ccNSO Meetings Programme Committee (MPC) is pleased to invite you to the upcoming pre-ICANN73 Virtual ccTLD News Sessions. ccTLD News is a global platform for both experienced and new people to meet, share experiences and discuss ccTLD-related aspects. The next edition of ccTLD News consists of two 90-minute sessions and will be held 2-3 March 2022. After each session, there will be an opportunity to further explore the topic areas that each speaker will cover in Zoom Breakout rooms, or have an informal conversation with your peers. The goal of this program is to facilitate participation in ICANN Public Meetings during the pandemic. The group is responsible for supporting the SOs and ACs in proposing a slate of nominees, for confirmation by the ICANN Board of Directors, to constitute an omnibus standing panel that will hear and resolve disputes filed under the IRP described in the ICANN Bylaws. Read more. NEW: Quantum Computing and the DNS The ICANN Office of the Chief Technology Office (OCTO) has published OCTO-031: Quantum Computing and the DNS. Quantum computers have attracted the attention of the security community in recent years due to the possibility that they will be able to undermine currently-popular cryptographic algorithms. There are no quantum computers powerful enough to do so today, but as the technology slowly improves, there may come a day when some of the algorithms in use today will be easily broken by this new type of computer Read more.
